White Notches Fourth Triple-Double in Five-Set Showdown vs. Roberts Wesleyan

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Concluding their week's play in East Coast Conference play on Sunday afternoon, the Queens College women's volleyball team welcomed the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks to Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
 
Rookie setter Kylynn White (Chicago, IL) led the Knights with an outstanding performance, recording her fourth career triple-double as she tallied a match-high 18 kills, 15 assists, 11 digs, and a career-best four blocks. Senior duo of outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) and middle blocker Maya Angelova (Kyustendil, Bulgaria) combined for 21 kills, but in a tightly contested match that featured 20 ties and nine lead changes, the Knights ultimately fell in a hard-fought five-set battle to the visiting Redhawks.

MATCH RECAP: Queens 2, Roberts Wesleyan 3 (Set Scores: 25-16, 20-25, 26-24, 18-25, 6-15)

In the opening set, Queens stormed out to a commanding 13–4 lead, fueled by three kills from Conrad and two service aces from senior setter Jayna Marie Lorenzo (Rodeo, CA).
 
Roberts Wesleyan mounted a brief rally to close the gap to 15–9, but the Knights quickly responded.
Back-to-back kills from Conrad and Angelova, followed by two service aces from senior middle blocker Lindsay Osterhoudt (Orlando, Fla), helped seal a dominant 25–16 win in the first set and gave Queens a 1–0 lead in the match.
 
Both teams traded points early in the second set, but with Queens holding a slim 9–7 lead, Roberts Wesleyan responded with a decisive 12–2 run to surge ahead 19–11.
 
The Knights battled back with a 7–3 run to close the gap to 22–18, but the Redhawks held on to take the second set 25–20, evening the match at 1–1.
 
Riding the momentum from their second-set win, Roberts Wesleyan came out strong in the third, building a 14–9 advantage. Queens slowly chipped away at the deficit, with White recording three kills during a 3–1 run that brought the Knights within three at 17–14.
 
Each time the Redhawks built a lead, the Knights responded, staying within striking distance. Trailing 21–17, Osterhoudt sparked a 6–2 run that brought Queens level at 23–23.
 
After Roberts Wesleyan regained the lead at 24–23, White delivered a clutch kill and block to give Queens set point at 25–24. Osterhoudt then sealed the comeback with a solo block, lifting the Knights to a thrilling 26–24 win and a 2–1 lead in the match.
 
The Redhawks opened the fourth set with a quick 3–1 lead, but Queens responded behind strong play from seniors Conrad, Angelova, and Osterhoudt to take a 6–3 advantage.
 
However, Roberts Wesleyan answered with a dominant 12–2 run to surge ahead 15–8. The Redhawks maintained control the rest of the way, closing out the set with a 25–18 win to even the match at 2–2 and force a decisive fifth set.
 
In the decisive fifth set, four attacking errors by the Knights combined with a .471 hitting percentage from the Redhawks proved costly, as Queens fell 15–6 to drop a hard-fought match, 3–2.

  • White recorded her fourth career triple-double, and second of the week, leading the Knights with 18 kills on a .340 hitting percentage, 15 assists, 11 digs, and a career-best four blocks.
  • Conrad tallied 11 kills, four blocks, and four digs.
  • Angelova notched 10 kills, three blocks, and two digs.
  • Osterhoudt tallied five kills, a career-best eight service aces, six blocks, and four digs.
  • Marie Lorenzo recorded 14 assists, eight digs, four kills, and two service aces.

Next Match

Continuing their homestand on Wednesday, October 15, the Knights will host the Mercy University Mavericks at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
