COLONIA, NJ. – On Monday, Jan. 20 the East Coast Conference announced Week Ten of the men's basketball weekly report sheet, and Queens College men's basketball senior duo guard
Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) and
Omar Nkonde (Harlem, N.Y.) were awarded a spot on the Honor Roll sheet.
For the sixth straight week, the men's basketball team has found a spot on the Honor Roll sheet earning a total of 12 on the year.
For the second straight week, Chester has found a spot on the ECC Weekly Report earning a consecutive Honor Roll spot.
Chester averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals over the course of two ECC games. The Queens native began the week recording 17 points on 46.2% shooting to go with five made three-pointers, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals against Mercy Wednesday evening. With his fourth three-pointer of the night in the second half, Chester recorded his 1000 career points to become the 18
th Knight in program history to cross the 1K mark. On Saturday against defending ECC champions STAC the senior recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal to conclude his week.
For the first time this season Nkonde has earned a spot in the ECC weekly report sheet earning his first Honor Roll spot of the year.
Nkonde averaged 10.5 points on a shooting % of 62.5, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks in two ECC games. Nkonde began the week recording a career-best 17 points on 66.7% to go with five rebounds, and four blocks against Mercy Wednesday evening. The senior concluded his week with four points, five rebounds, four blocks, and one assist against defending ECC champions STAC on Saturday afternoon.
NEXT TIP-OFF
Queens will now open a two-game ECC homestand beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 22 as they welcome the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia to town. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. The Firebirds enter the week with an overall record of 3-11, 1-5 in ECC play, and are coming off a 77-70 loss to Roberts Wesleyan.
