FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing their three-game homestand to begin the 2024 year, the Queens College men's soccer team matched up against two-time defending NCAA National Champions Franklin Pierce University Ravens at Knights Field Saturday evening.
In a game that saw a total of 39 fouls and seven yellow cards, the Knights were shut out as the Ravens earned a 3-0 victory Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Playing in cloudy and chilly conditions, It would be a midfield battle to begin the first half as both teams attempted to dictate the pace.
A total of 11 fouls were called in the first 24 minutes of play before a shot was registered. As the Knights earned a free kick in the 25
th minute of play, junior
Andreas Charalambous (Limassol, Cyprus) header towards goal was denied by the Ravens goalie.
Queens continued to keep the Ravens off the ball before a foul on the Knights allowed the visitors to take advantage as FPU broke through in the 39
th minute of play. As the Knights' defense blocked Antonio Lampreia Lima's initial shot, Lima put his rebound shot away to give his side a 1-0 lead.

As an offside call canceled another attacking opportunity for the visitor, red-shirt sophomore
Tommy Wagner's (East Northport, N.Y.) header in the 48
th minute would sail out right.

Harry Cooke (Market Drayton, England) recorded a shot on goal in the 50
th minute but would be denied the game-tying goal with a timely save from the Ravens goalie.
In the 63
rd minute of play, the Ravens would double their advantage as they took advantage of a misplay before tacking on a third goal in the 89
th minute to defeat the Knights to the final score of 3-0 Saturday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Queens were outshot 12-7 with 7-3 shots on goals in the game.
- Charalambous, Cooke, and Sophomore Miguel Soto Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) recorded the three shots on goal for the Knights.
- Iten made four saves between the pipes.
NEXT GAME
The Knights conclude the homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as they welcome the Tigers of Holy Family University to town. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
