No. 4 Men’s Soccer Earns 5-1 Road Win in Battle of Regionally Ranked Teams

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA. – Staying on the road, the regionally ranked No. 4 Queens College men's soccer team traveled to Eiler-Martin Stadium for a non-conference matchup against regionally ranked No. 10 East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon.
 
In a battle between two regionally ranked teams, sophomore Bradyn Brown scored his first goal and game-winner of the season, while sophomore Taro Aboubakary and seniors Tommy Gunn and Keithlend Cesar combined for four goals, with Gunn recording a brace, as Queens earned a 5-1 victory over the Warriors.
 
With the win, the Knights improve to 2-1-1 on the season.

MATCH RECAP 

In a match featuring 34 combined shots and 18 shots on goal, Queens controlled the pace early and consistently pressured the Warriors.
 
Gunn recorded two shots on target in the opening 12 minutes, including an attempt just 14 seconds into the match, but both were turned away by the East Stroudsburg goalkeeper.
 
The Warriors registered their first shot on target in the 12th minute, but sophomore Stian Haugland, making his collegiate debut, made the save to keep the match scoreless.
 
Following a Warriors shot that sailed wide in the 16th minute, Queens struck on the counterattack. Gunn found Aboubakary, who fired a left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner to give the Knights a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.
 
Queens nearly doubled its advantage in the 22nd minute, but Gunn was denied again.
 
The Knights continued to pressure the Warriors' defense and broke through in the 36th minute. Cesar delivered a cross to Brown, who finished the chance to extend the lead to 2-0.
 
Queens carried its 2-0 advantage into halftime while holding a 9-7 edge in shots.
 
The Knights continued to attack early in the second half, with senior Anton Mand sending a shot off a corner kick wide in the 48th minute.
 
East Stroudsburg responded on the counterattack one minute later, cutting the Queens lead to 2-1.
 
After another Warriors shot sailed wide in the 56th minute, Brown and senior Tommy Wagner put shots on target in the 57th and 59th minutes, respectively, but both were saved.
 
As Queens searched for an insurance goal, Haugland kept the Knights in front with two more saves to preserve the 2-1 advantage.
 
Queens then erupted for three goals over the final 10 minutes to put the match out of reach. Gunn scored twice in a span of just 21 seconds, recording his second career brace and extending the Knights' lead to 4-1 in the 82nd minute.
 
Cesar capped the scoring in the final minute, scoring his first goal of the season to seal the 5-1 victory.

Queens concludes its roadstand Wednesday, Sept. 9, traveling to Bridgeport, Conn., for a non-conference matchup against the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
