Women’s Volleyball Opens 2024 Season with Four Matches in Connecticut

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2024 Queens College women's volleyball team season officially get underway on Friday, Sept. 6 as fifth-year head coach Stefan Leger and the Knights open the year in New Haven, CT competing in four matches over the course of two days at host Southern Connecticut State University.
 
The 2023 season would see Leger and the Knights record a winning season with an overall record of 13-11 and a consecutive East Coast Conference postseason berth. The 13 wins would be the most in a single season since the 2008 squad went 25-10. Leger and his coaching staff would lead juniors Despina Boudouris, Christina Franco, and sophomore Kendall Conrad to All-ECC Second Team honors.

Queens College Knights Preview (2023 Record: 13-11 overall, 7-5 ECC)

  • As a team, the Knights recorded 1079 kills averaging 11.6 per set, 1003 assists averaging 10.8 per set, 179 service aces averaging 1.9 per set, and 162.5 total blocks averaging 1.7 per set.
  • In the last two years, the Knights have combined for an overall record of 25-24 including a second-place finish in conference play in 2022.
  • Since 2022 the Knights have compiled a record of 14-9 inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
  • In the 2024 ECC Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Knights have been tabbed to finish fourth and take the last postseason spot earning 26 total points. (Link)
  • The 2024 squad consists of nine returners, while Leger and his staff have added six newcomers for depth.
    • All-ECC honorees in Outside Hitters Conrad and Franco will look to lead the offense once again as they combined for 551 kills, 75 service aces, and 16 double-doubles in 2023.
    • While setter Boudouris who recorded 855 assists, 35 service aces, 220 digs, and 11 double-doubles will counted to push the high-octane offense.
    • Middle Blocker Lindsay Osterhoudt is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign recording a career-best 138 kills to go with 57 total blocks for a career-high 176 points.

Opponent Outlook

 For the first time since the 2021 season Leger and the Knights return to New Haven, CT to begin the new season as they compete in the SCSU Tournament hosted by Southern Connecticut State University Owls from Friday, Sept. 6 to Saturday, Sept. 7.
 
Queens opens the tournament against the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning (first-ever matchup) and the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Friday before matching against the host Owls and Post University Eagles on Saturday.

  • In 2023 the Purple Knights concluded the season with an overall record of 26-8 en route to winning the CACC Championship and a trip to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.

Southern Connecticut State University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: 6-13
  • Last Win: 3-1 (9/8/14)
  • Last Loss: 1-3 (9/16/23)
  • In 2023 the Owls went 14-17 overall on the year.

Post University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: 5-2
  • Last Win: 3-1 (9/1/23)
  • Lass Loss: 1-3 (9/9/16)
  • In 2023 the Eagles went 8-24 overall with a trip to the CACC Quarterfinals.
Week Two Outlook: The road stand concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with a visit to Rutherford, NJ against the Golden Falcons of Felician University. While the first of three big homestands gets underway on Friday, Sept. 13 as Leger and the Knights host the Aline Pascal Lubin Invitational beginning with a matchup against the Eagles and the East Stroudsburg University Warriors. The Invitational concludes on Saturday, Sept. 14 against the University of Pittsburg-Johnstown Mountain Cats (first-ever matchup) and Saint Anselm College Hawks.
