FLUSHING, N.Y. – Last week the Queens College women's volleyball team bounced with three victories and will look to keep the momentum going as they return to non-conference play to open the week on the road before opening a five-match homestand in East Coast Conference play.
Last week the Knights defeated Holy Family University in three sets, Georgian Court University in three sets before ending the week with a five-set comeback victory over Roberts Wesleyan University in their ECC opener.
Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 10-5 overall, 1-0 ECC)
- Through the first four weeks of the regular season, head coach Stefan Leger and the Knights boast an overall record of 10-5 and enter week five of the season on a three-match winning streak.
- As a team, the Knights have recorded 701 kills averaging 11.9 per set, 662 assists averaging 11.2 per set, 118 service aces averaging 2.0 per set, and 98.5 total blocks averaging 1.7 per set.
- In the 2024 East Coast Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Knights have been tabbed to finish fourth and take the last postseason spot earning 26 total points. (Link)
- The Knights are led by freshman setter/right side Madi Hathaway (Edmond, OK) who has recorded 149 kills on a .246 hitting %, 151 digs, 197 assists, and 30 service aces.
- The Edmond native has recorded five triple-doubles and six double-doubles notching a career-high 18 kills on a .342 hitting % against Bridgeport, 27 assists against East Stroudsburg, 19 digs against Post, and 13 service aces against Holy Family
- On Monday (Sept. 30) Hathaway earned her fourth straight spot on the ECC Women's Volleyball Weekly Report Sheet as she was named Rookie of the Week for the third time this year.
- Hathaway has earned two ECC Player and Rookie of the Week honors (9.9 | 9.16) and one Honor Roll (9.23) spot.
- The rookie leads the nation in Triple-Doubles (5) after the fourth week of play.
- Junior outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) has recorded a team-high 149 kills and 17 service aces to go with two double-doubles
- Conrad recorded a season-best 15 kills on .234 hitting %, and 14 digs in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, and tied a career-best five service aces against Pittsburgh-Johnston on Saturday (9.14)
- The junior earned two ECC Honor Roll spots through the first four ECC Weekly Report Sheets.
- Junior libero Sarah Munn (Torrance, CA) leads the team in digs (274) and has recorded 18 service aces to go with one double-double.
- On Monday (Sept. 16) Munn earned her second straight spot on the ECC Weekly Report Sheet as she was named on the Honor Roll sheet.
- She was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on September 9.
- The junior notched her first career double-double against Post on Sept. 7 with 20 digs and 11 assists.
- Munn matched a career-best effort of 31 digs against East Stroudsburg on Sept. 13.
- Senior setter Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) has recorded 332 assists, 113 digs, and 13 service aces to go with three double-doubles.
- On Friday, Sept. 13, Boudouris became the sixth player in program history to surpass the 2K Assist mark.
- On Wednesday, Sept. 25 the senior recorded a career-best five service aces in the victory over Holy Family.
- On the year Boudouris has earned three ECC Honor Roll spots (9.9 | 9.16 | 9.30).
Opponent Outlook
The Knights begin the week in Pleasantville, N.Y. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 against the Setters of Pace University in non-conference play.
Leger and his squad return home to begin a five-match ECC slate starting on Saturday, Oct. 5 as they welcome defending ECC Champions Wildcats of Daemen University before concluding the week's play on Sunday, Oct. 6 against the Saints of D'Youville University.
Pace University Preview
- Overall Wins-Losses History: 9-7
- Last Win: 3-2 (9/13/22)
- Last Loss: 2-3 (9/12/23)
- The Setters enter the week with an overall record of 5-3 and are coming off a three set win over Bloomfield College.
- The Knights lead the All-Time series 9-7 and will match up for the fourth straight season. The last two meetings have required the full five sets to determine the winner with Queens taking the road win in 2022 and Pace earning the win in Flushing last season.
Daemen University Preview
- Overall Wins-Losses: 4-17
- Last Win: 3-2 (11/11/17)
- Lass Loss: 1-3 (11/17/23)
- The Wildcats enter the week with an overall record of 9-3 and 2-0 in ECC play as they are coming off back-to-back four set wins over Mercy University and St. Thomas Aquinas College at home.
- Queens trails the All-Time series 4-17 and are looking to end an 11-match losing streak against the Wildcats in search of their first win since the 2017 season when Queens earned a 3-2 victory on November 11.
- Saturday's meeting will be an ECC Semifinals rematch against Daemen which saw the Wildcats earn a 3-1 victory before going on to repeat as ECC Champions.
D'Youville University Preview
- Overall Wins-Losses: 5-1
- Last Win: 3-1 (11/5/23)
- Lass Loss: 0-3 (10/23/21)
- The Saints enter the week with an overall record of 5-9 and 2-0 in ECC play and will open the week against Molloy University on Saturday before traveling to Flushing on Sunday to conclude the week's play.
- Queens leads the All-Time series 5-1 having won the last four meetings against the Saints including a five-set comeback victory in Flushing last season.
Week Six Outlook
Leger and the Knights will stay in Flushing as they continue ECC play on Thursday, Oct. 10 for their lone match of the week against the Lions of Molloy University.
