Women’s Volleyball Match Preview: Knights Look to Rebound with a Three-Match Slate

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Following a tough three-match stand last week the Queens College women's volleyball team looks to return its winning start to the season as they welcome two non-conference foes to Flushing to begin the week before concluding the week in Rochester in East Coast Conference play.
 
Last week the Knights fell to Adelphi University in four sets, Bentley University in three sets, and Lewis University in four sets, all three teams that made the 2023 NCAA Volleyball Regional Tournament.

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 7-5 overall)

  • Through the first three weeks of the regular season, head coach Stefan Leger and the Knights boast an overall record of 7-5 but enter week four of the season on a three-match losing streak.
  • As a team, the Knights have recorded 583 kills averaging 12.1 per set, 550 assists averaging 11.5 per set, 74 service aces averaging 1.5 per set, and 74.5 total blocks averaging 1.6 per set.
  • In the 2024 East Coast Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Knights have been tabbed to finish fourth and take the last postseason spot earning 26 total points. (Link)
  • The Knights are led by freshman setter/right side Madi Hathaway (Edmond, OK) who has recorded a team-high 122 kills on .277 hitting %, 114 digs, 164 assists, and 13 service aces.
    • The Edmond native has recorded five triple-doubles and five double-doubles notching a career-high 18 kills on a .342 hitting % against Bridgeport, 27 assists against East Stroudsburg, and 19 digs against Post.
    • On Monday (Sept. 23) Hathaway earned her third straight spot on the ECC Women's Volleyball Weekly Report Sheet as she earned a Honor Roll spot.
    • Hathaway has earned two ECC Player and Rookie of the Week honors (9.9 | 9.16)
    • The rookie leads the nation in Triple-Doubles (5) after the third week of play.
  • Junior outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) has recorded 116 kills and a team-high 14 service aces to go with one double-double.
    • Conrad recorded a season-best 14 kills on .382 hitting % in the victory over Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon, 10 digs against East Stroudsburg on Friday, and tied a career-best five service aces against Pittsburgh-Johnston on Saturday.
    • The junior earned an ECC Honor Roll spot in the first ECC Weekly Report Sheet (9.9).
  • Junior libero Sarah Munn (Torrance, CA) leads the team in digs (237) and has recorded 12 service aces to go with one double-double.
    • On Monday (Sept. 16) Munn earned her second straight spot on the ECC Weekly Report Sheet as she was named on the Honor Roll sheet.
    • She was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on September 9.
    • The junior notched her first career double-double against Post on Sept. 7 with 20 digs and 11 assists.
    • Munn matched a career-best effort of 31 digs against East Stroudsburg on Sept. 13.
  • Senior setter Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) has recorded 271 assists, 93 digs, and eight service aces to go with three double-doubles.
    • On Friday, Sept. 13, Boudouris became the sixth player in program history to surpass the 2K Assist mark.
    • On the year Boudouris has earned two ECC Honor Roll spots (9.9 | 9.16).

Opponent Outlook

The Knights begin the week in Flushing on Wednesday, Sept. 25 as they welcome the Tigers of Holy Family University and conclude their four-match homestand on Friday, Sept. 27 against the Lions of Georgian Court University in non-conference play.
 
Leger and his squad open ECC play on Sunday, Sept. 29 in Rochester, N.Y. as they match up against the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University.

Holy Family University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses History: 2-3
  • Last Win: 3-1 (9/8/23)
  • Last Loss: 0-3 (9/2/17)
  • The Tigers enter the week with an overall record of 2-8 and are coming off a three set loss to Pace University.
  • The Knights trail the All-Time series 2-3 and are looking for their second straight win against the Tigers since last year's 3-1 victory in Wilmington, Del.
  • Wednesday's match will be the first-ever meeting in Flushing against the Tigers.

Georgian Court University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: 7-9
  • Last Win: 3-1 (9/1/17)
  • Lass Loss: 1-3 (9/3/22)
  • The Lions enter the week with an overall record of 3-4 and will match up against Wilmington University before traveling to Flushing on Friday.
  • Queens trails the All-Time series 7-9 and are looking to end a four-match losing streak against the Lions in search of their first win since the 2017 season when Queens earned a 3-1 victory on September 1.

Roberts Wesleyan University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: 9-13
  • Last Win: 3-0 (10/22//23)
  • Lass Loss: 0-3 (11/7/21)
  • The Redhawks enter the week with an overall record of 8-3 and will open ECC play against Molloy University on Saturday before hosting the Knights on Sunday to conclude the week's play.
  • Queens trails the All-Time series 9-13 but have won the last four meetings against the Redhawks including back-to-back five-set wins in Rochester.

Week Five Outlook

Leger and the Knights will stay on the road to open week five of the year on Wednesday, Oct. 2 with a trip to Pleasantville, N.Y. as they match up against the Setters of Pace University.
 
The Knights will conclude the week in ECC action at home as they open a season-high five-match homestand beginning on Saturday, Oct. 5 against defending ECC Champions Daemen University Wildcats before hosting the Saints of D'Youville University on Sunday, Oct. 6.
