Women’s Volleyball Week Preview: Knights Prepare to Match Up Against Three 2023 NCAA Tournament Teams

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Following a 3-2 week including a 2-2 weekend in Flushing head coach Stefan Leger and the Queens College women's volleyball team prepare for one of their toughest schedules to date.
 
The Knights open the week in Garden City on Tuesday (Sept. 17) evening as they match up against the Panthers of Adelphi University.
 
Queens will then use the next three days to prepare for their third straight and final doubleheader of the season on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they welcome two teams for the Knights Tri-Match. The Knights match up against the Bentley University Falcons at 10 a.m. before concluding the weekend against the Lewis University Flyers at 3 p.m.

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 7-2 overall)

  • The Knights have begun the season with an overall record of 7-2 for the first time under Leger. In the second weekend of play, the Knights completed the season series over Post in four sets, fell to East Stroudsburg and Pittsburgh-Johnstown in four, and concluded the weekend's play with a victory over Saint Anselm in four.
  • As a team, the Knights have recorded 469 kills averaging 12.7 per set, 445 assists averaging 12.0 per set, 60 service aces averaging 1.6 per set, and 59.5 total blocks averaging 1.6 per set.
  • In the 2024 East Coast Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Knights have been tabbed to finish fourth and take the last postseason spot earning 26 total points. (Link)
  • The Knights are led by freshman setter/right side Madi Hathaway (Edmond, OK) who recorded a team-high 98 kills on .288 hitting %, 114 digs, 130 assists, and nine service aces.
    • The Edmond native has recorded five triple-doubles and three double-doubles notching a career-high 18 kills on a .342 hitting % against Bridgeport, 27 assists against East Stroudsburg, and 19 digs against Post.
    • On Monday (Sept. 16) Hathaway earned her second ECC Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the second Women's Volleyball Weekly Report Sheet.
    • The rookie leads the nation in Triple-Doubles (5) after the second week of play.
  • Junior outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) has recorded 94 kills and a team-high 13 service aces to go with one double-double.
    • Conrad recorded a season-best 14 kills on .382 hitting % in the victory over Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon, 10 digs against East Stroudsburg on Friday, and tied a career-best five service aces against Pittsburgh-Johnston on Saturday.
    • The junior earned an ECC Honor Roll spot in the first ECC Weekly Report Sheet (9.9).
  • Junior libero Sarah Munn (Torrance, CA) earned a second straight spot on the ECC Weekly Report Sheet as she was named on the Honor Roll sheet on Monday (9.16).
    • She was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on September 9.
    • On the year she recorded a team-high 193 digs to go with eight service aces and notched her first career double-double against Post on Sept. 7 with 20 digs and 11 assists.
    • Munn matched a career-best effort of 31 digs against East Stroudsburg.
  • Senior setter Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) earned a consecutive Honor Roll spot on Monday, Sept. 16.
    • On Friday, Boudouris became the sixth player in program history to surpass the 2K Assist mark.
    • On the year Boudouris has recorded 221 assists, seven service aces, and 75 digs to go with three double-doubles.

Opponent Outlook

To begin the week on Tuesday evening Queens matches up against the Panthers who are coming off a NCAA East Regional Semi-Final appearance.
 
On Saturday the Knights welcome defending East Regional Champions Falcons to town and an out-of-region match-up against the Flyers who advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.

Adelphi University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: 7-10
  • Last Win: 3-1 (9/9/08)
  • Last Loss: 2-3 (10/19/23)
  • The Panthers enter the week with an overall record of 4-5
  • It is the fifth straight season both teams match up against each other. In last year's match, the Knights fell in a heartbreaking 3-2 final. Queens is in search of their first victory over Adelphi since the 2008 season when the Knights earned a 3-1 victory at home. Their last road victory came on October 25, 2005, which saw the Knights earn a 3-2 victory.

Bentley University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: 3-12
  • Last Win: 3-1 (10/30/04)
  • Lass Loss: 0-3 (9/18/21)
  • The Falcons enter the week with an overall record of 4-3 and will match up against Molloy on Friday in Rockville Centre before traveling to Flushing on Saturday to compete in the Knights Tri-Match.
  • Both sides meet each other for the first time since the 2021 season which saw the Falcons earn a 3-0 victory over Queens in Shippensburg on Sept. 18. The Knights are in search of their first victory over Bentley since the 2004 season when Queens earned a 3-1 victory in Smithfield, R.I. on Oct. 30.

Lewis University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses: -

  • Lass Loss: -
  • The Flyers enter the week with an overall record of 4-4 and will match up against Molloy University in Rockville Centre on Friday morning before traveling to Flushing on Saturday to conclude their New York trip.
  • Both sides are matching up against each other for the first time in program history.
Week Four Outlook: Week four of the season will see Leger and his squad continue non-conference play to open the week as they welcome the Tigers of Holy Family University on Wednesday, Sept. 25 before wrapping up the second homestand on Friday, Sept. 27 against the Lions of Georgian Court University. Queens concluded the weeks play in Rochester, N.Y. on Sunday, Sept. 29 in their East Coast Conference opener against the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University.
