WATERBURY, CONN. – After a scoreless first half, the Queens College women's soccer team would score in quick succession in the second half to defeat the Post University Eagles to the final score of 2-1 Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
The Knights were led by sophomore
Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and
Abigail Jalocha (Maspeth, N.Y.) with Jalocha scoring her first career goal before the Knights held off a late rally from the Eagles to earn their second straight win of the year.
With the win, the Knights improve to 2-2 on the year and open their two-game road stand on a strong note. Saturday's win over Post earns Queens their first win over the Eagles since the 2017 season when the Knights earned a 4-1 victory in Waterbury.
GAME RECAP
The first half of the game would see the Knights dominate the possession total to 59% as they recorded 15 shots and four shots on goal.
But the Eagles' defense would continue to deny the Knights their goal-scoring chance as they took a scoreless tie into halftime.
Keeping their first-half momentum over the Eagles going, Queens began the second half as the aggressors once again as the senior duo of
Erica Petrie (Marlboro, N.Y.) and
Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y) combined for four shots.
The Eagles would put rookie goalie
Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) under pressure over the next 10 minutes of play as they recorded three shots on goal but Hines-Hirsch would keep the game knotted at 0-0.
Continuing to attack, Queens would breakthrough in the 66
th minute of play as sophomore
Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.) connected with Lewis who sent a 20-yard blast into the bottom left corner to put the Knights up 1-0 and break the scoreless tie.
Looking to add more, rookie
Morgan Khadra's (Grand Island, N.Y.) shot would get blocked in the 67
th minute of play. But as the Eagles cleared the ball, senior
Sarah Anderson (East Setauket, N.Y.) delivered a long ball from midfield for Jalocha who sent a five-yard shot over the Eagles goalie into the middle of the net as Queens took a commanding lead of 2-0 in the 68
th minute of play.
With 20 minutes left in the game, Hines-Hirsch would make way for junior goalie
Jessica Daymond (Rockaway, N.Y.) as the Middle Village native made her first appearance of the season.
But with the Knights leading 2-0, the Eagles would cut the visitors lead in half in the 79
th minute of play.
The Eagles would record four shots in the final five minutes of play but goalie Daymond and her defense would hold off the late rally with Daymond notching a save in the 88
th minute of play as Queens earned their second victory of the year.

- Queens held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
- A total of 18 fouls were called as the Knights committed 10 compared to the Eagles' eight.
NEXT GAME
The Knights conclude the two-game roadstand on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they travel to Rochester, N.Y. for their East Coast Conference opener against the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
