ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Opening East Coast Conference play on the road the Queens College women's soccer team matched up against 2023 Regular Season Champions Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks at Redhawks Turf Field.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, two quick goals to begin the second half would see the Knights take a 2-1 lead but the Redhawks would rally to defeat Queens to the final score of 3-2 Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Knights fall to 2-3 overall, and 0-1 in ECC play.
GAME RECAP
It would be an even affair in the first half as Queens matched the Redhawks shot for shot but it would be the home side who opened the scoring with a goal in the 25
th minute of play.
Trailing 1-0, senior
Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y) looked to tie the game just 26 seconds into the restart but her shot would sail out right.
Queens would outshoot the Redhawks 2-1 in the final 15 minutes of the first half including having an offside call against them as they took a 1-0 deficit into halftime.
Taking their momentum from the final phase of the first half to begin the second half, Queens quickly tied the game as Ragone won the ball before beating her defenders to tie the game at 1-1 just 46 seconds into the restart.
Having shifted the momentum the Knights would take a 2-1 lead as sophomore
Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.) was in the right spot at the right time to bury the rebound shot from Ragone in the 50
th minute of play.
As Queens continued to search for insurance goals, Ragone's shot would get blocked before the Redhawks looked to answer on the counterattack.
Having negated a corner kick and a shot in the 55
th minute of play, sophomore
Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) shot in the 61
st minute would be saved as the Redhawks goalie denied Queens a 3-1 advantage.
As rookie goalie
Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded a save in the 62
nd minute, the Redhawks would be awarded a penalty kick in the 64
th minute of play and would bury the chance to tie the game at 2-2.
With the game tied, Queens would outshoot the Redhawks 3-0 but the home side's defense would deny Queens the game-winner.
Entering the final 10 minutes of play and looking to secure at least one point in their conference opener, it would be the Redhawks who would take all three points as they scored the game-winner in the 84
th minute of play before the home side defense was able to defend the final six minutes of play to earn a 3-2 victory over Queens.

- The five goals combined are the most scored in the All-Time series against the Redhawks.
- The two Queens goals are the most in a game against RWU and ended a seven-game shutout streak as the Knights scored their first goal against the Redhawks since the 2015 season.
