Game Day Preview: Women’s Basketball Concludes 2023-2024 Season with Stop at UDC before Hosting Staten Island on Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team concludes the 2023-2024 season with two East Coast Conference games.
 
The Knights conclude the road portion of the year with a trip to Washington, D.C. as they match up against the Firebirds of the University of District of Columbia on Wednesday (Feb. 28) evening. The season officially concludes on Saturday (Mar. 2) afternoon as the Dolphins of College of Staten Island come to town.

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights fell in both road games last week with losses at Mercy and STAC.
  • Sophomore guard Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) leads the offense averaging 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds to go with 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game and two double-doubles on the year.
    • Davis recorded her second double-double of the year with a career-high 31 points to go with 10 rebounds and four steals against Mercy (1.31)
    • On Monday (Feb. 5) Davis was awarded her second ECC Player & Defensive Player of the Week honors.

  • Rookie forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) is averaging 12.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
    • Awaka has tallied seven double-doubles on the year with a career-best 29 points (vs. Wilmington), 19 rebounds (vs. STAC), three blocks (vs. Caldwell), & four steals (vs. Felician)
    • On Tuesday (Feb. 20) afternoon Awaka would earn her ninth ECC Rookie of the Week honors.

    • On Tuesday (Feb. 20) Awaka was named to the MBWA Honorable Mention list for the second time this year.

  • Rookie guard Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) is averaging 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
    • Abrams tallied a career-high 32 points against Molloy (Feb. 7)
    • On Monday (Feb. 26) afternoon Abrams earned her fourth ECC Rookie of the Week Honors.

University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Preview

  • UDC enters the week with an overall record of 17-9, 9-5 in ECC play, and are coming off a victory over Roberts Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon.
  • It will be the 27th meeting overall and the second meeting of the season with Queens trailing the series 11-15 All-Time.
  • The Knights are looking to earn a series split having fallen at home on November 23, 2023, to the final score of 58-64.
  • Destiny Ryles leads the offense averaging 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game.
  • Tori Williams is averaging 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

College of Staten Island Dolphins Preview

Last Loss: December 2, 2023 (Away 41-58)
  • Staten Island enters the week with an overall record of 9-16 and 6-8 in ECC play and will host Molloy before traveling to Flushing.
  • It is the second meeting of the year and sixth overall with the Knights trailing the series 2-3 All-Time.
  • The Knights are looking to earn a series split having fallen on the road on December 2, 2023 to the final score of 41-58.
  • Jenalyse Alarcon leads the offense averaging 12.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
  • Kyra Rose is averaging 10.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists per game.
