Men’s Basketball Ranked Sixth in ECC Preseason Poll, Knights Open Season Friday Evening in Garden City

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2024-2025 Queens College men's basketball team season gets underway on Friday, Nov. 8 as the Knights compete in the East Coast Conference x NE10 Conference Challenge with the hosting rights going to Adelphi University Panthers.

In 2023-2024 the Knights finished with the season with an overall record of 12-16, and 6-10 in ECC play and earned the #6 seed. While seniors Sunnie Diamond (Atlanta, GA.) and Malik Bentinck (Queens, N.Y.) earned All-ECC honors with Diamond earning All-MET East Region honors.

2024-2025 Preseason Poll

In the 2024-2025 Preseason Poll head Coach Matt Collier's squad has been voted to finish sixth earning 38 points and earning the last spot to the six-team ECC Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament.
 
Daemen University Wildcats and five-time defending champions St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans finished tied for first earning 72 points with the Wildcats earning three first place votes and the Spartans earning four first place votes.
 
The College of Staten Island Dolphins earned 64 points and have been voted to finish third, while the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University earned 47 points and are slotted to finish fourth.
 
The Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia earned 44 points and placed fifth to round out the top six.
 
The final three teams of the poll are the Molloy University Lions at seventh with 33 points, the Saints of D'Youville University at eighth with 20 points, and the Mavericks of Mercy University at 15 points in ninth.

Queens College Knights Outlook

  • Senior guards Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) and Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) will spearhead the roster with Chester coming off a career year having averaged 13.8 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 3.1 APG and Seraphin having averaged 9.6 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 1.6 APG.
  • Chester recorded a career-high 31 points, and five steals against Molloy on Feb. 7, notched two games with nine rebounds, and recorded eight assists against Roberts Wesleyan on Jan. 19.
  • The Queens native enters the 24-25 season 172 points shy of joining the 1,000 points club. He was named ECC Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 5 and earned two Honor Roll spots on Jan. 16 and Feb. 12.
  • While the Lakeview native recorded a career-high 25 points against Mercy on Jan. 31 and tied a career-best effort of four blocks against Caldwell on Dec. 5. Seraphin enters the year 244 shy of joining the 1,000 points club.

Opponents Outlook

Week one of the schedule takes the Knights to Garden City, N.Y. as they compete in the ECCxNE10 Conference Challenge beginning with the Setters of Pace University on Friday, Nov. 8 before matching up against the Panthers of Adelphi University on Saturday, Nov. 9 to conclude the first weekend of play.

  • The Setters are coming off an 18-11 season and advanced to the NE10 Quarterfinals game.
  • Friday's game will be the 10th overall game against Pace with Knights trailing the All-Time series to the record of 1-8.
  • Queens is searching for their first win over the Setters since November 13, 2015, when the Knights earned a 78-76 victory in Flushing.
  • In their last meeting, the Knights would fall in a heartbreaker to the final score of 80-88 in double overtime in Rockville Centre on November 10, 2023.

Adelphi University

  • The Panthers are coming off an 18-11 season and advanced to the NE10 Quarterfinals game.
  • Saturday's game will be the 30th All-Time meeting with the Knights trailing the series 6-23.
  • Queens has taken the last two meetings against Adelphi earning a victory at home on November 11, 2022, before winning in overtime in Rockville Centre on November 11, 2023.

Week Two Outlook

The Knights will use the week to prepare for their lone non-conference game of the week on Saturday, Nov. 16 as they welcome the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College to Flushing. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
