MBB Game Day Preview: Men’s Basketball Continues Non-Conference Play Against Yellow Jackets and Lightning

FLUSHING, N.Y. – A two-game week for the Queens College men's basketball team as the Knights continue to non-conference play including a home game to open the week.
 
In their lone game of the week, the Knights fell in their home opener to Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon.

Queens College Knights Outlook

  • Queens enters the week looking for their first win of the year as they close out the early homestand before hitting the road on Saturday afternoon.
  • As a team, the Knights are averaging 58.3 PPG on 34.8% shooting, 29.3 RPG, 7.3 APG, 6.3 SPG, and 4.3 BPG.
  • Senior guard Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) leads the Knights averaging 10.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 1.7 APG through two games.
    • Chester recorded a season-high 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with three rebounds, one assist and one steal against Adelphi on Saturday, Nov. 9.
    • The senior needs 145 points to join the 1K Points club.
  • Senior guard Nasan Ayala (Lefrak City, N.Y.) is averaging 8.7 PPG and 2.0 RPG per game.
    • Ayala scored 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting to go with five made free throws in the Knights season opener against Pace on Friday, Nov. 8.
  • In the 2024-2025 Preseason Poll head Coach Matt Collier's squad has been voted to finish sixth earning 38 points and earning the last spot of the six-team ECC Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament. (Link)

Opponents Outlook

In week three of the season, the Knights welcome the Yellow Jackets of American International College to Flushing on Wednesday, Nov. 20 before hitting the road to Wilmington, Del. on Saturday, Nov. 23 as they match up against the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College.

  • AIC enters the week with an overall record of 1-3 and are coming off a 91-82 victory over Saint Anselm in NE10 play Saturday afternoon.
  • Wednesday's game will be the fifth overall team meeting between both sides with the Knights trailing All-Time series to a record of 1-3.
  • The Knights are looking for their first victory over the Yellow Jackets since their first-ever meeting on December 14, 2022, when Queens earned a 74-69 victory at home.

Goldey-Beacom College

Last Win: 80-68 (1/13/24)
Last Loss: 77-83 (11/14/14)
  • Goldey-Beacom enters the week with an overall record of 2-2 and are coming off a 75-61 victory over Mercy University Saturday afternoon. They will match up against Lock Haven on Tuesday evening before hosting the Knights on Saturday afternoon.
  • Saturday's meeting will be the third overall meeting between both sides with the All-Time series tied at 1-1.
  • The Knights earned their first victory over the Lightning last season with an 80-68 victory in Flushing on January 13, 2024.

Week Four Outlook

Two games on the slate as the Knights open a two-game stand in Flushing beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 26 as they welcome the Eagles of Post University before hosting the Lions of Georgian Court University on Sunday, Dec. 1.
