Women’s Soccer Earns 3-0 Shutout Victory over Dominican to Close Out Non-Conference Play on a Strong Note

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to conclude their non-conference portion of the schedule on a strong note, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed the Chargers of Dominican University of New York to Knights Field Wednesday evening.

For the second straight game, Queens wasted little time in taking a lead as they were led by sophomore Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.) notching the game-winning goal in the 10th minute of play and senior Julia Ragone's (Centereach, N.Y) recording her team-leading ninth goal of the year to help double their advantage in the 22nd minute for a 2-0 lead before sophomore Alyssa Illiano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded her first career goal in the 89th minute of play as the Knights earned a 3-0 shutout victory over the Chargers.

With the win, the Knights improved to 9-5-1 overall and closed non-conference play on a winning note. Wednesday's victory over Dominican earned Queens their first victory over the Chargers since the 2018 season when the Knights earned a 5-1 victory on October 26, 2018, at home.

GAME RECAP

Queens wasted no time in applying the pressure from the first kickoff as the Knights recorded six shots before Erica Petrie (Marlboro, N.Y.) delivered a through ball for Rosenberger to beat the Chargers into the bottom left corner for a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play.

The Knights would continue to apply pressure as they maintained majority of the possession and would see their advantage double in the 22nd minute of play as sophomore Anna Tavantzis (Holbrook, N.Y.) delivered a through ball for Ragone to record her team-leading ninth goal of the year into the bottom right corner for a 2-0 lead.

As Queens continued to keep the Chargers off the ball, 14-0 shot over the first 35 minutes of play in the half, the Chargers would record two shots in the final seven minutes of play, but both shots would sail out left as Queens went into halftime leading 2-0.

The Chargers would open the second half as the aggressor as they recorded two shots on goal but sophomore goalie Alexa Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) making her season debut would deny both scoring opportunities in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.

For the final 30 minutes of play, the Knights defense would keep the Chargers without a shot but sophomore Illiano recorded her first career goal in the 89th minute of play as she blasted a shot from 16 yards into the bottom right corner as Queen recorded their third goal of the game to earn a 3-0 victory to close out non-conference play on a winning note and her ninth victory of the year.
