Women’s Volleyball Week Preview: Knights Open Second Five-Match Road Stand of the Year

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's volleyball team went 1-1 last week as the Knights' eight-match wins streak came to an end.
 
Last week the Knights defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College in three sets on Tuesday evening before dropping a four set match to Mercy University on Saturday evening in East Coast Conference play.

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 15-6 overall, 5-1 ECC)

  • Through the first seven weeks of the regular season, head coach Stefan Leger and the Knights boast an overall record of 15-6, 5-1 ECC, and enter week eight of the season coming off a 1-1 week.
  • As a team, the Knights have recorded 955 kills averaging 11.6 per set, 902 assists averaging 11.0 per set, 175 service aces averaging 2.1 per set, and 142.5 total blocks averaging 1.7 per set.
  • In the 2024 East Coast Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Knights have been tabbed to finish fourth and take the last postseason spot earning 26 total points. (Link)
  • Junior outside hitter Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) leads the offense having recorded a team-high 212 kills and 23 service aces to go with two double-doubles
    • Conrad recorded a season-best 17 kills in the victor over D'Youville Saturday (10.5), 14 digs in the victory over Roberts Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, and tied a career-best five service aces against Pittsburgh-Johnston on Saturday (9.14)
    • The junior earned three ECC Honor Roll spots through the first seven ECC Weekly Report Sheets.
  • Freshman setter/right side Madi Hathaway (Edmond, OK) has recorded 166 kills on a .249 hitting %, 172 digs, 229 assists, and 33 service aces.
    • The Edmond native has recorded five triple-doubles and seven double-doubles notching a career-high 18 kills on a .342 hitting % against Bridgeport, 27 assists against East Stroudsburg, 19 digs against Post, and 13 service aces against Holy Family
    • On Monday (Oct. 7) Hathaway earned her fifth straight spot on the ECC Women's Volleyball Weekly Report Sheet as she was named Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this year.
    • Hathaway has earned two ECC Player and Rookie of the Week honors (9.9 | 9.16) and one Honor Roll (9.23) spot.
    • The rookie is ranked second in the nation with five Triple-Doubles
  • Junior libero Sarah Munn (Torrance, CA) leads the team in digs (384) and has recorded 25 service aces to go with one double-double.
    • On Monday (Oct. 7) Munn earned her third straight spot on the ECC Weekly Report Sheet as she was named on the Honor Roll sheet.
    • She was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on September 9.
    • The junior notched her first career double-double against Post on Sept. 7 with 20 digs and 11 assists.
    • Munn recorded a program and career-best 35 digs against D'Youville on Oct. 6.
  • Senior setter Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) has recorded 503 assists, 144 digs, and 21 service aces to go with four double-doubles.
    • On Friday, Sept. 13, Boudouris became the sixth player in program history to surpass the 2K Assist mark.
    • On Wednesday, Sept. 25 the senior recorded a career-best five service aces in the victory over Holy Family.
    • On the year Boudouris has earned four ECC Honor Roll spots (9.9 | 9.16 | 9.30 | 10.21).

Opponent Outlook

The Knights open their second five-match road stand of the year beginning with ECC play on Thursday, Oct. 24 against the Lions of Molloy University in Rockville Centre before opening a two-match non-conference stand on Saturday, Oct 26 against the Golden Rams of West Chester University.

Molloy University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses History: 19-21
  • Last Win: 3-1 (10/10/24)
  • Last Loss: 1-3 (11/10/23)
  • The Lions enter the week with an overall record of 12–8 and 3-3 in ECC play and are coming off a five-set loss to Adelphi in non-conference play on Tuesday evening.
  • It is the second meeting of the year against the Lions with Queens looking to complete the series sweep for the first time since the 2015 season. The Knights are looking for their first road victory in Rockville Centre since October 13, 2015, when Queens earned a 3-1 victory.

West Chester University Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses History: 0-3
  • Last Win: -
  • Last Loss: 0-3 (9/11/21)
  • The Golden Rams enter the week with an overall record of 9-10 and will match up against Millersville University on Wednesday evening before hosting the Knights on Saturday afternoon.  
  • Saturday's meeting will be the fourth meeting against the Golden Rams and the first meeting since September 11, 2021, when the Knights fell in three sets.
  • Queens is looking for their first victory over West Chester in program history.

Week Nine Outlook

Leger and the Knights continue their road stand with three matches on the docket on Thursday, Oct. 31 as they wrap up non-conference play against the Chargers of University in New Haven in West Haven, CT before returning to ECC play with a weekend trip to Buffalo, N.Y. Queens opens the weekend in Amherst on Saturday, Nov .2 against the Wildcats of Daemen University before concluding the weekend play in Buffalo on Sunday, Nov. 3 against the Saints of D'Youville University.
