Game Day Preview: Men’s Basketball Opens Three-Game Homestand Beginning Wednesday Evening

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team extended their win streak to a season-best five games as they defeated D'Youville Friday before the streak ended Sunday afternoon with a loss to Daemen.
 
The Knights will now look to begin a new streak beginning on Wednesday (Jan. 31) evening as they welcome the Mavericks of Mercy University to town before concluding the week against defending ECC Champions St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon.

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights season-best five-game win streak concluded with a loss to Daemen as Queens went 1-1 last week. Queens would earn two series split with a victory over D'Youville before falling against Daemen.
  • Senior forward Malik Bentinck (Queens, N.Y.) is averaging 13.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game with nine double-doubles on the year.
    • In the victory over Goldey-Beacom (Jan. 13) Bentinck recorded a career-high 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the win over Roberts Wesleyan (Jan. 19).
    • On Tuesday (Dec.12) the senior earned MBWA Honorable Mention for his first regional honors of the year.
    • On Monday (Jan.29) Bentinck earned his fifth Honor Roll spot and has earned two Defensive Player of the Week nods.

      • Honor Roll: Nov. 20 | Dec. 4 | Jan. 8 | Jan. 22 | Jan. 29
  • Junior Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) is averaging 10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
    • Over the last 12 games, Chester is averaging 14.3 points on 39.1% shooting with 5.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
    • Chester has recorded several career-highs this year
      • Points - 22 points against Caldwell (12.5)
      • Rebounds – 9 (2x) against Molloy (1.10) & Goldey-Beacom (1.13)
      • Assists – 8 against Roberts Wesleyan (1.19)
    • Chester earned his first ECC Honor Roll spot of the year on Jan. 16.

Mercy University Mavericks Preview

  • Mercy enters the week with an overall record of 1-17 and 0-8 in ECC and are coming off a loss to UDC over the weekend.
  • Wednesday's meeting will be the first of two meetings this season and the 47th overall with the Knights leading the series 35-11.
  • Jayden Dewaal leads the offense averaging 16.1 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.
  • Alex May is averaging 14.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans Preview

  • STAC enters the week with an overall record of – and – in ECC and are coming off a win over Staten Island.
  • Saturday's meeting will be the first of two meetings this season and the 47th overall with the Knights trailing the series 21-25
  • The Knights are looking to end a 13-game losing streak against the Spartans and earn their first victory since the 2015-16 season when they earned a 69-64 victory in Sparkill.
  • James Patterson leads the offense averaging 23.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
  • Kyle Pulliam is averaging 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
