FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening East Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon, the Queens College volleyball team welcomed defending champions Daemen University Wildcats to Fitzgerald Gym.
In a match that saw 26 ties and 13 lead changes, the Knights were swept for the second time in 10 matches as they opened their ECC opener with a 3-0 loss
(Set Scores: 18-25, 23-25, 15-25) to the defending champions.
With the loss, the Knights move to 6-4 on the season and 0-1 in ECC play.
Match 10 Recap (Set Scores: 18-25, 23-25, 15-25)
- A back-and-forth first set in the early going saw nine ties and four lead changes, however with the set tied at 13-13, a Wildcats 12-5 run to end the first set would see them take a 1-0 lead with a 25-18 first set victory.
- In the second set, the Knights quickly found themselves trailing 7-3 before using a timeout to stop the visitors' momentum.
- Trailing 6-10, the Knights would go an 8-2 run as they took a 14-12 lead.
- Trailing 23-20, sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carolltown, PA) and junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) would help the Knights tie the set at 23-23 forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout.
- The visitors would use the timeout to earn a 25-23 second set victory and take a 2-0 match lead.
- For the third straight set, both teams would exchange leads but with the set tied at 10-10, a 7-0 run by the Wildcats would see them run away with the match before earning a 25-15 third set victory to sweep the Knights 3-0.
By the Numbers
- Franco led the Knights with a near double-double recording seven kills and nine digs, while Conrad tallied seven kills, five digs, and a match-high three blocks.
- Junior Alicia Cervera (Valencia, Spain) recorded six kills, seven digs, and one block on the afternoon.
- Junior setter Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) tallied her sixth double-double of the year with 19 assists, and 10 digs to go with two kills and one service ace.

Stefan Leger and the Knights conclude the homestand Sunday (Sept. 24) afternoon as the Saints of D'Youville University visit Fitzgerald Gymnasium. First serve is set for noon.
