Volleyball Game Day Preview – Knights Welcome Daemen & D’Youville as ECC Play Opens Up

FLUSHING, N.Y. -  It would be two tough losses for the Queens College volleyball team last week as they fell in a five and four-setter match in non-conference play. 
 
This week the Knights open East Coast Conference play as defending ECC champions Daemen University Wildcats come to town on Saturday (Sept. 23) afternoon before concluding the weekend against the Saints of D'Youville University on Sunday (Sept. 24) afternoon.
 
Schedule for the Week (9/18 – 9/24)

Queens College Knights Preview (6-3 Overall Record)
  • Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights went 0-2 last week dropping a 3-2 score line to Pace on Tuesday before a 3-1 loss to SCSU on Saturday concluded the week. 
  • The Knights are led by sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) who has recorded 117 kills (3.25 kps), 17 service aces, 85 digs, and 14 blocks with three double-doubles.
    • Conrad recorded her third career double-double posting a season-high 18 kills to go with a career-best 17 digs against SCSU (9/16).
    • She would record a career-best four blocks against Holy Family (9/8) and five services against Wilmington (9/9).
  • Junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) has tallied 93 kills (second on the team), to go with 10 service aces, 121 digs, and four double-doubles on the season. 
    • Against Pace (9/12) Franco recorded a season-high 17 kills.
    • Franco notched a season-best 13 kills and 19 digs against Wilmington (9/9).
    • On Monday (9/18) Franco earned her second straight ECC Weekly Honor Roll spot.
  • Junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) tallied 324 assists, 82 digs, and 14 service aces.
    • Boudouris has tallied five double-doubles on the season.
    • She would record a season-best 48 assists in the win over Wilmington (9/9)
    • Against Jefferson she would record her second straight 40-plus assist performance to go with a season-best 15 digs against Jefferson (9/9).
    • Boudouris has been named ECC Weekly Award Sheet all three weeks earning Setter of the Week (2x), Honor Roll (1x) 

Daemen University Wildcats Preview (7-4 Overall Record)
  • Daemen enters the week with an overall 7-4 and are coming off a 2-2 week as they competed in the Adelphi Volleyball Tournament. 
  • The Wildcats will match up against SCSU on Friday evening before traveling to Flushing on Saturday for their ECC opener.
  • Queens trails the series 4-14 and are looking to end an eight-match losing streak to their conference foe. The last win came on November 11, 2017, when the Knights earned a 3-2 victory. 
  • Charlotte Koerber leads the Wildcats offense having tallied 127 kills, 19 service aces, and 103 digs to go with eight blocks. While Giselle Giraud has recorded 103 kills and a team-high 18 blocks.

D'Youville University Saints Preview (3-9 Overall Record)
  • D'Youville enters the week with an overall record of 3-9 and will match up against Molloy in the ECC opener before visiting Flushing on Sunday afternoon. 
  • The Knights lead the overall series 3-1 having earned their first series sweep in 2022. 
  • Madeline O'Brien leads the offense for the Saints having tallied 148 kills, 10 service aces, and 85 digs. While Giselle Ramirez has recorded 83 kills and a team-high 23 blocks on the year. 

Next Match
The Knights hit the road for the first time in over two weeks as they travel to Sparkill, N.Y. on Wednesday (Sept. 27) evening with an ECC matchup against the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
