Men’s Tennis Earns ITA National Recognition

TEMPE, ARIZONA. – On Tuesday (May. 30), the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2023 ITA Division II Men's Regional Award recipients. 
 
Head coach Somadi Druker and the Knights concluded the 2022-2023 season with an overall record of 15-5 but it was a season that saw the Knights continue their impressive run in the East Region. 
 
In the fall the Knights saw sophomore Cameron Henricy (Las Palmas, Spain) advance to the ITA East Regional Single Tournament final, while the pair of junior Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland) and graduate student Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) advanced to the ITA East Regional Double Tournament final and earned an At-Large bid to the 2022 ITA Cup. 
 
During the spring, the Knights earned East Coast Conference Co-Regular Season Championship honors before earning their fifth ECC title in six seasons with a 4-0 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College. 
 
Queens would earn their 21st straight NCAA Men's Tournament appearance as they earned hosting rights and the #1 seed in the East Regional Bracket for the first time since the 2017 season. 
 
Following the conclusion of the season, the Knights find themselves ranked #38 in the nation.
 
Queens is one of two teams in the East region to be ranked in the Top 50 with Thomas Jefferson University ranked 49 in the rankings released on May 24. 
 
While in the East Region, the Knights maintained their #1 regional ranking.

In the ITA Regional Awards, Druker and her squad were awarded the ITA Community Service Award. For the first time since the 2020 season when Druker and the Knights have earned the top ITA Community Service honors and third in five years. 
MTEN Lluis Miro Miralles 
Lastly, graduate student Lluis Miralles Miro (Barcelona, Spain) was awarded the ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. 
 
Throughout the season, Miro has demonstrated character not only on the court but off the court. The graduate student played a huge role in helping the Knights earn the success they had this season as they clinched the ECC title and their #1 seed in the NCAA East Regional Tournament.
