Women’s Tennis Concludes 22-23 Season on a High Note, Sweeps Goldey-Beacom College

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2022-2023 season for the Queens College women's tennis team (11-8 overall) traveled to Wilmington, Del with a matchup against Goldey-Beacom College Lightning (5-12 overall) at Delcastle Tennis Center Monday afternoon.  
 
Looking to end the season on a high note, the Knights would sweep all nine matches on the day to end their season on a two-match win streak with a 7-0 victory. 
 
With the win, the Knights improved their overall record to 14-1 over their non-conference foe. 
 
It was a strong start to doubles as the #1 senior duo of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) defeated Maria Bruno and Zehra Canbaz to the score of 6-2.
 
The Knights would clinch doubles points as the #3 doubles pair of senior Chloe Certain (Obernai, France) and sophomore Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) earned a 6-2 victory over Alex Kepa and Hannah Brandl. 
 
Queens would complete the sweep at #2 doubles as the duo of junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) and freshman Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) defeated Macy Hendin-Walker and Nahomi Quinonez to the score of 7-6 (7-1) as the Knights took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
 
At #4 singles, Sciarrotta would conclude her Knights career with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kepa to give Queens a 2-0 lead. 
 
Junior Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) would make it 3-0 following her victory at #6 singles over Asli Kunduk to the score of 6-1, 6-0. 
 
Lamy would clinch the match at #2 singles as the rookie defeated Hendin-Walker to the score of 6-0, 6-1. 
 
Certain would finish her Knights career with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #5 singles over Brandl. 
 
Makal continued the road to the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Canbaz at #1 singles before Fawzy applied the finishing touches at #3 singles as the junior defeated Bruno to the score of 6-2, 6-1 for the 7-0 victory over the Lightning.
 
Head coach Alan Nagel and the Knights conclude the season with an 11-8 overall record.
