Women’s Basketball Honor Graduating Senior Raven Pitt in Regular Season Finale

FLUSHING, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the Queens College women's basketball team concluded the regular season in East Coast Conference action against the visiting Mavericks of Mercy College inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium. 
 
Before introductions, Bet Naumovski and the Knights honored senior Raven Pitt (Valley Stream, N.Y.) in their annual Senior day ceremony.
 
Game Recap
 
The Mavericks opened the scoring before Pitt tied the game 2-2 with 45 seconds gone into the game. 
 
After the visitors went up 6-2, sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y) and Pitt would tally back-to-back buckets to bring them within 8-6 with 6:37 left in the first quarter.
 
But the hot shooting of the Mavericks would see them end the quarter on a 16-2 run as they led 24-6 after the first quarter of play. 
 
The Knights deficit would balloon to high as 21 points in the second quarter as the Mavericks shot 60.0% from the field. Trailing 39-18, Reeves and junior Kendra McPeek (Binghamton, N.Y.) would end the first half on a 4-0 run as Queens cut the deficit down to 17, 39-22 going into the locker rooms. 
 
Just two minutes into play, freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) and Pitt opened the third quarter on a 4-0 as Queens cut their deficit down to 13, 39-26 with 8:00 minutes to play. 
 
Despite Queens shooting 70.0% in the third quarter, the Mavericks' three-point shooting would keep them ahead to spoil the Knights Senior day as they earned a 66-52 victory over Queens. 
 
Game Highlights
  • Pitt recorded a team-tying 14 points (7-18 FG) to go with four rebounds, three assists, and a career-high six steals.
    • With her 3 assists in Saturday's game, Pitt has entered the Top 10 in the Women's Basketball Record Book for Single Season Assists with a total of 119. 
  • Reeves tallied 14 points (6-12 FG) to go with six rebounds, two assists, and a career-high four steals.
  • Davis recorded 12 points (3-10 FG) to go with six rebounds and two steals. 
  • The Knights shot 39.6% going 21-53 from the field while the Mavericks shot 53.2% from the field on 25-47 shooting.
    • Mercy won the boards battle (31-25) but both teams tied a 6-6 margin on second-chance points.
    • The Knights forced 25 Mavericks turnovers, but the visitors held a 21-20 slim edge on points off turnovers.
