Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB Sophomores Diamond and Wright Lead the Offense Against Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the sophomore duo of Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) and Tyron Wright (Camby, IN) combined for 33 points to lead the Queens College men's basketball team offense but another second-half rally would fall short as the Knights fell to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University in East Coast Conference at the Voller Athletic Center.

Game Recap

The Knights opened the game by committing three turnovers as the Redhawks went on a 7-0 run to open the game before Wright and the Knights went on a 7-0 run to tie the game with 15:39 left until halftime.

The Redhawks would respond with another 7-0 run to take a 14-7 before a 6-2 run brought Queens within 16-13 with 11:42 on the game clock.

With Queens struggling to find their shooting rhythm, the visitors would go scoreless until 9:12 as the deficit grew to double-digits of 25-13. A layup by junior Malik Bentinck (Queens, N.Y.) would stop the bleeding as the Knights tallied a 15-5 run to claw back within two, 30-28 with 5:02 left.

Roberts Wesleyan would increase their lead back to eight, 38-30 before another 10-3 run saw the Knights come within one, 41-40 with 52 seconds until halftime.

But a layup with 35 seconds left would see the Knights trail by three, 43-40 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

Queens began the second half as the aggressor as they cut the deficit down to one on two separate occasions.

After a dunk by senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.) brought the score to 45-44 with 18:58 to go, the Redhawks would use a 6-0 run to extend their lead to seven, 51-44 before the Knights went 3-4 from the field in an 8-4 run as they got within three, 55-52 with 14:55 to go.

But for every run the Knights would use, the Redhawks would stay a step ahead. Despite the Knights shooting 47.0% in the second half, a comeback rally would fall short as the Redhawks shot 58.0% from the field and converted 14-17 from the charity stripe to earn the series sweep over Queens to the final score of 95-81 Saturday afternoon.
