Game Day Preview: Men’s Basketball Concludes 2023 at Home Against St. Michaels Saturday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team returns to action after a two week break as the Knights welcome the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College to town on Saturday (Dec. 30) afternoon.

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights are on a two-game losing streak having fallen to Wilmington and Saint Rose before the holiday break.
  • Senior guard Sunnie Diamond (Atlanta, GA) leads the offense averaging 17.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
    • Diamond recorded his second double-double of the year with a season-high 33 points, and 11 rebounds to go with five assists in the victory over Daemen Sunday afternoon.
    • Against Cheyney (Nov. 15) Diamond recorded his first double-double of the year with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
    • On Monday (Dec. 11) Diamond earned his second ECC Honor Roll spot of the year.
  • Senior forward Malik Bentinck (Queens, N.Y.) is averaging 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game with four double-doubles on the year.
    • In the victory over Caldwell (Dec. 5) Bentinck recorded a career-high 17 points and 15 rebounds.
    • On Tuesday (Dec.12) the senior earned MBWA Honorable Mention for his first regional honors of the year.
    • On Monday (Dec. 11) Bentinck earned his first ECC Defensive Player of the Week nod to go with two Honor Roll spots.

  • Saint Michael's enters the week with an overall record of 8-2 and are coming off a victory over Wilmington on Tuesday (Dec. 19) afternoon.
  • It will be the fifth meeting between both sides and the second straight meeting in Flushing with the series tied at 2-2.
  • The Knights are looking for their first win over the Purple Knights since the 2011-2012 season when the Knights earned a 70-64 victory on the road.
  • Darrel Yepdo leads the team averaging 17.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.
  • Romar Reid is averaging 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.

Next Game

The Knights return to action on Saturday (Jan. 6) afternoon in Lakewood, N.J. against Georgian Court University Lions in non-conference play.
