Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Griffin Records Season-High 15 Point as Men’s Basketball Battles CSI in ECC Play

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The junior duo of Dante Griffin (Utica, N.Y.) and Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) combined for 27 points as the Queens College men's basketball team matched up against the Dolphins of College of Staten Island inside The Tank Saturday afternoon.

Match Recap

It would be a slow start for the Knight as the Dolphins opened the game on an 8-0 run forcing an early Queens timeout with just 1:54 gone.

Queens would get on the board as junior Zyeir Lawrence (Oneonta, N.Y.) recorded the visitors first bucket of the game at the 17:07 mark to start a 14-8 run as Queens cut their deficit down to two, 16-14 with 13:56 left in the first half.

But with the Knights still searching for the hot hand, CSI would go on a 27-12 run over the final 13:14 minutes of the first half to take a 43-26 lead at halftime.

Queens would be held 34.4% from the field on 11-of-32 shooting, while CSI shot 45.5% from the field on 15-of-33 shooting with 4-of-6 from the three-point line.

Opening the second half, Queens came out of the locker room with new profound energy as they went on a 10-0 run to cut into the Dolphins' advantage and forced an early Dolphins timeout.

Keeping the momentum going, the Knights would get within 10, 52-42 with 14:10 to go in the game as they outscored the Dolphins 18-9 in their run.

Continuing to keep pace with the Dolphins and the Knights shooting over 50% from the field, it would help them keep their deficit at 10 points, 59-49 with nine minutes to go in the game.

But after another scoreless frame and the Dolphins on a 5-0 run, the deficit would increase to 15, 64-49 before Griffin broke the drought at the 7:14 mark to get the Knights within 12, 64-52.

However with Queens unable to get consistent stopped and another scoring drought, the Dolphins would continue to keep their lead above 10 points before going on to earn the ECC victory over the Knights Saturday afternoon.

By the Numbers

  • Griffin led the Knights in scoring with a season-high 15 points (5-of-9 FG) to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
