Game Day Preview: Women’s Basketball Concludes 2023 Home Portion Against Yellow Jackets Tuesday Evening

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Last week the Queens College women's basketball team went 1-1 as they earned a non-conference victory over Wilmington before falling to Assumption Saturday afternoon.
 
The Knights conclude the 2023 home portion on Tuesday (Dec. 19) evening as they welcome the Yellow Jackets of American International College to town.  

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights are coming off of a 1-1 week as they defeated Wilmington at home Wednesday evening before falling to Assumption on Saturday afternoon.
  • Sophomore guard Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) leads the offense averaging 14.6 points, and 5.8 rebounds to go with 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
    • Davis recorded a career-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds and five steals in the victory over Bloomfield.
    • On Monday (Nov. 20) Davis was awarded ECC Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors for performance.
      • On Monday (Dec. 18) Davis earned her second Weekly Award Honors as the sophomore found a spot on the Honor Roll sheet.
  • Rookie forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) is averaging 13.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
    • Awaka has tallied four double-doubles on the year with a career-best 29 points (vs. Wilmington), 14 rebounds (vs. Caldwell), three blocks (vs. Caldwell), & four steals (vs. Felician)
    • On Monday (Dec. 18) afternoon Awaka would earn her fifth ECC Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Rookie guard Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) is averaging 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
    • Abrams tallied a career-high 20 points against UDC on November 29.
    • On Monday (Dec. 11) afternoon Abrams earned her first weekly awards honors as she was named Rookie of the Week.

  • AIC enters the week with an overall record of 7-1 and are riding a five-game win streak
  • It will be the 10th overall meeting between both sides with Queens having split the last two meetings as the Knights earned their first-ever victory over the Yellow Jackets on January 26, 2022, to the final score of 76-70.
  • Briana Lee leads the offense averaging 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
  • Ruzgar Christina Boyle is averaging 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Next Game

The 2023 away portion of the schedule concludes on Saturday (Dec. 30) afternoon as the Knights visit the University of Hartford in non-conference play.
