FLUSHING, N.Y. – Rookie
Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) paced the Queens College women's basketball team offense with a team-high 14 points as the Knights matched up against defending East Regional champions Assumption University Greyhounds inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

It would be a slow start for the Knights as the Greyhounds opened the game with a 7-0 run before Awaka tallied back-to-back buckets to get Queens within three, 7-4 with 5:06 to go in the first quarter.
However, the Greyhounds would end the quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 19-4 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both teams were cold to begin the second quarter before Queens went on a 7-0 run as they cut their deficit down to 22-11 with 5:52 left until halftime.
But the Greyhounds would end the quarter on a 19-4 run as they took a 41-15 lead at halftime.
As Assumption continued to shoot over 50% for the game, the Knights were unable to make the comeback attempt as they fell in the non-conference contest.
By the Numbers
- Rookie Awaka tallied a team-high 14 points (4-of-9 FG, 6-of-12 FT) to go with five rebounds and one steal.
- Fellow freshman Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) recorded nine points, and three assists on the afternoon
- Sophomore Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded seven points, five rebounds and one assists in the contest.
- As a team, the Knights were held to 26.7% as they went 12-45 from the field, while the Greyhounds shot 57.4% going 31-54 from the field.
Next Game
The Knights conclude non-conference play before the Holiday break on Tuesday (Dec. 19) evening as they welcome the Yellow Jackets of American International College to town. Tip-off set for 7:00 p.m.
