Volleyball Game Day Preview – Regular Season Concludes in Key ECC Matchup for Volleyball Against Molloy on Friday

FLUSHING, N.Y. -  Following a 1-1 week which saw the Queens College volleyball team lock up an East Coast Conference playoff berth for the second straight, the Knights will conclude the 2023 regular season on Friday (Nov. 10) evening.
 
Queens will welcome the Lions of Molloy University to Fitzgerald Gymnasium in a pivotal ECC match which will determine the seeding for the upcoming East Coast Conference Volleyball Tournament.
 
Schedule for the Week (11/6 – 11/10)

Queens College Knights Preview (13-9 Overall Record, 7-4 ECC)
  • Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights are coming off a 1-1 week as they fell to Daemen University 3-0 on Saturday before earning a 3-1 victory over D'Youville on Sunday afternoon to conclude their Buffalo trip.
  • Entering Friday's final ECC match, the Knights hold a 7-4 conference record and are tied with Molloy for second place in the standing.
    • However, the Knights need a victory over the Lions to earn the #2 seed for the second straight.
    • A loss on Friday will see the Knights finish in fourth place.
  • The Knights are led by sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) who has recorded 285 kills (3.35 kps), 35 service aces, 176 digs, and 36 blocks with five double-doubles.
    • Conrad recorded a career-high 24 kills against Adelphi (10/19)
    • She would record a career-best four blocks against Holy Family (9/8) and five services against Wilmington (9/9).
    • Conrad earned her second ECC Player of the Week honors on October 23.
      • On October 2nd, Conrad was awarded a spot on the ECC Honor Roll sheet.
  • Junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) has tallied 214 kills (second on the team), to go with 33 service aces, 258 digs, and eight double-doubles on the season.
    • Franco has recorded a season-and-career-best 23 kills on two occasions coming against Roberts Wesleyan (10/8) & D'Youville (11/5).
    • The junior notched a season-best 19 digs against Wilmington (9/9).
    • Franco has been named to the ECC Honor Roll sheet four times this season.
      • On October 2nd, Franco was awarded ECC Player of the Week honors.
  • Junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) has tallied 783 assists, 200 digs, and 32 service aces to go with 10 double-doubles on the season.
    • Boudouris recorded a season-and-career-best 57 assists against D'Youville (10/8).
      • The junior has touched 50-plus assists on two separate occasions this year.
    • Boudouris has been named ECC Weekly Award Sheet on seven separate occasions earning Setter of the Week (5x), and Honor Roll (2x)
      • On November 6th, Boudouris was awarded her fifth Setter of the Week honors.

Molloy University Lions Preview (12-13 Overall Record, 7-4 ECC)
  • Molloy enters the week with an overall record of 12-13 and 7-4 in ECC play and are coming off a 1-1 week in Buffalo.
  • It will be the 39th meeting All-Time between both sides with the Knights trailing the series 18-20.
  • The Knights are looking to earn a series split as they look to lock up the second seed for next week's ECC Tournament.
  • Kiarra Roth leads the team with 320 kills, 244 digs, 53 blocks, and 18 service aces while Roberta Monticelli has recorded 164 kills, and 114 digs to go with 31 digs.
 
Next Match
Following the conclusion of the regular season the Knights will prepare for the East Coast Conference Volleyball Tournament set to begin Nov. 18 in Amherst, N.Y. hosted by #1 seed and regular season champions Daemen University. More details will follow next week.
