ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Looking to conclude the month of November on a high note, the Queens College men's basketball team matched up against regionally-ranked #5 Chargers of Dominican University of New York inside Hennessy Center Wednesday afternoon.

It was a slow start for the Knights to open the first half of play as they fell behind 9-0 before junior
Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) got Queens on the board with two made free throws at the 17:11 mark.
As the Chargers took a double-digit lead, the duo of junior
Omar Nkonde (Harlem, N.Y.) and senior
Malik Bentinck (St. Albans, N.Y.) would bring the Knights deficit down to single digits, 16-8 with 14:47 to go in the first half.
With 9:49 to go, the Chargers would extend their lead to 16 points, 32-16 before Queens attempted a comeback rally.
The Knights would go on their best run of the first half with a 17-6 run from the 8:52 mark to the 1:44 mark as they cut a 16-point deficit down to five, 38-33. However, Queens would commit two turnovers over the final 1:08 as Dominican ended the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 44-33 lead at halftime.
Bentinck opened the scoring in the second half for the Knights with a 5-0 run as they brought their deficit down to six points, 44-48 with 19:01 to go in the game.
But it would be the closest Queens would get into making a comeback before the Chargers got hot to defeat the Knights to the final score of 95-63.
By the Numbers
- All 12 Knights registered a point Wednesday afternoon led by freshman forward Mike Mendez (Brentwood, N.Y.) who recorded a career-high eight points (2-5 FG) to go with nine rebounds and two steals.
- Bentinck and junior Javier Contreras (Valley Stream, N.Y.) combined for 14 points and three rebounds.
- As a team, the Knights shot 35.0% going 21-60 from the field, while the Chargers shot 52.8% shooting 38-72 from the field.
- Queens shot 75.0% from the charity stripe as they went 18-24 including a perfect 10-10 from the line in the first half.

The Knights open East Coast Conference play on Wednesday (Nov. 29) evening as they welcome the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia to town. Tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
