Game Day Preview: Women’s Basketball Opens Three-Game Road Stand

FLUSHING, N.Y. – After a 1-1 week including the home opener victory, the Queens College women's basketball gets set for a busy week with three games on the docket.  
 
The week opens in Caldwell, N.J. on Tuesday (Nov. 21) evening as they match up against the Cougars of Caldwell University. Following the Thanksgiving break, the Knights will then travel to Rutherford, N.J. as they compete in the Felician Holiday Classic set for November 25 to November 26. Queens will open the Classic against the Golden Falcons of Felician University on Saturday (Nov. 25) afternoon before matching up against the Chargers of Dominican University of New York on Sunday (Nov. 26) afternoon.

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights are coming off a 1-1 week as they fell to Post University before defeating Bloomfield in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.
  • Sophomore guard Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) leads the offense averaging 16.8 points, and 7.0 rebounds to go with 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals throughout four games.
    • Davis recorded a career-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds and five steals in the victory over Bloomfield.
    • On Monday (Nov. 20) Davis was awarded ECC Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performance.
  • Rookie forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) is averaging 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals over the four games.
    • Awaka recorded her first career double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds against Post before posting eight points and 11 rebounds in the victory over Bloomfield.
    • On Monday (Nov. 20) afternoon Awaka would earn her second straight ECC Rookie of the Week honors.

Caldwell University Cougars Preview

  • Caldwell enters the week with an overall record of 1-2 and are coming off a 71-54 loss to Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon
  • Tuesday's meeting will be the seventh overall against their regional opponent with Queens trailing the series 2-4 and in search of their first win since November 19, 2016, when they earned a 73-63 in Flushing.
  • Jahnel Lewis leads the team averaging 19.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists and steals per game.
  • Lucy Coogan is averaging 18.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

Felician University Golden Falcons Preview

Last Win: December 20, 2008 (Neutral 65-58)
Last Loss: November 26, 2022 (Neutral 45-68)
  • Felician enters the week with an overall record of 0-3 and are coming off a 60-52 loss to #4 Assumption University on Saturday afternoon.
  • It will be the ninth meeting against the Golden Falcons in program history with the series tied at 4-4 All-Time.
  • The Knights are looking for their first win over the Golden Falcons since December 20, 2008, when they earned a 65-58 victory over their regional foe.
  • Katherine Ritchie leads the offense averaging 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.
  • Uzor Uchidiuno is averaging 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.

Dominican University of New York Chargers Preview

Last Loss: November 20, 2018 (Away 55-58)
  • Dominican enters the week with an overall record of 0-4 and are coming off an 82-75 loss to Mansfield University on Monday evening. The Chargers will match up with Molloy before battling the Knights on Sunday afternoon in the Felician Holiday Classic.
  • Sunday's meeting will be the seventh overall meeting with Queens trailing the series 2-4 All-Time.
  • The Knights are looking for their win over the Chargers since November 29, 2017, when they earned a 64-58 victory at home against their regional foe.
  • Cayla Howard leads the offense averaging 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
  • Angelina DiMarsico is averaging 14.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Next Game

The Knights open East Coast Conference play on Wednesday (Nov 29) evening as they welcome the Firebird of the University of the District of Columbia to town. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
