Game Day Preview: Men’s Basketball Continues Non-Conference Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – After opening the new year with an overall record of 1-1 and playing in two straight overtime games, the Queens College men's basketball continues non-conference play with two more games on the docket.
 
On Wednesday (Nov. 15) evening, the Knights will host the Wolves of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in their home opener before hitting the road on Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon in a Battle of the Knights as they match up against the Purple Knights of The University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT.

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights have started the year with an overall record of 1-1 as they fell in double overtime to Pace before earning an overtime victory over Adelphi to conclude the East Coast Conference/NE10 Conference Challenge.
  • Senior guard Sunnie Diamond (Atlanta, GA) leads the offense averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
    • Diamond recorded a season-high 28 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists as he fell short of his second career triple-double.
    • On Monday (Nov. 13) Diamond was awarded a Honor Roll on the first ECC Men's Basketball Weekly Award Sheet of the year.
  • Senior Forward Malik Bentinck (St. Albans, N.Y.) is averaging 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game.
    • The senior recorded a season-high 14 points, and seven rebounds to go with two blocks against Pace.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania Wolves Preview

Last Loss: January 7, 2023 (Away 62-66)
  • It will be the first matchup against the Wolves in Flushing and the third meeting overall in program history.
  • Chimeziri Okeoma leads the team averaging 15.0 points, and 3.0 rebounds per game.

University of Bridgeport Purple Knights Preview

Last Win: February 20, 2022 (Home 84-67)
Last Loss: December 11, 2022 (Home 69-76)
  • Bridgeport has opened the year with an overall record of 1-1 and will host Saint Anselm on Wednesday evening before playing host to the Knights on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Knights are looking for their second straight win in Bridgeport.
  • Joshua Dennis leads the offense averaging 19.0 points, & 4.0 rebounds per game, while Nick Traill is averaging 14.5 points to go with 4.0 rebounds per game. 

Next Game

The Knights stay on the road as they travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. on Wednesday (Nov. 22) evening with a matchup against the Chargers of Dominican University in non-conference play.
