Game Day Preview: Women’s Basketball Continues Non-Conference Against CACC Opponents

FLUSHING, N.Y. – After opening the 2023-2024 season competing in the CACC/ECC Conference Challenge over the weekend, the Queens College women's basketball team opens the week with a road trip before concluding their week in their home opener.
 
The week opens in Waterbury, CT as the Knights match up against the Eagles of Post University on Wednesday (Nov. 15) evening before welcoming the Bears of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University on Saturday (Nov. 18) afternoon in their home opener.

Queens College Knights Preview

  • The Knights opened the season against 2022-2023 NCAA East Regional Runner-ups in Jefferson University before concluding their opening week of play against Chestnut Hill but it would be two tough losses.
  • Rookie forward Nkiru Awaka (Hyde Park, N.Y.) led the Knights averaging 11.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in the two games.
    • Awake began her Knights career recording 11 points, and eight rebounds to go with three steals against Jefferson before she tallied a career-best 12 points and nine rebounds against Chestnut Hill.
    • Her performance would earn top East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week honors on Monday (Nov. 13) afternoon in the first Women's Basketball Weekly Report Sheet of the Year.
  • Sophomore guard Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) is averaging 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds as she opened the year with a team-high 18 points against Jefferson.

  • Post enters the week with an overall record of 0-1 having fallen to Assumption University.

  • Taina Pagan leads the offense averaging 12.0 points & 14.0 rebounds per game.

Bloomfield College of Montclair State University Bears Preview

  • Bloomfield enters the week with an overall record of 1-1 and will host Mercy University on Wednesday (Nov. 15) evening before traveling to Flushing to face the Knights.
  • It will be the third meeting against the Bears in program history with Queens leading the series 2-0.
  • Taneshia Tucker leads the offense averaging 24.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while Daniya Darby is averaging 9.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Next Game

The Knights will open a three-game road trip as they travel to Caldwell, N.J. on Tuesday (Nov. 21) evening as they match up against the Cougars of Caldwell University.
