Volleyball Concludes Regular Season Against Molloy on Senior Night, Await ECC Postseason Seed

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2023 regular season wrapped up on Friday (Nov. 10) evening as the Queens College volleyball team welcomed the Lions of Molloy University Lions to Fitzgerald Gymnasium in East Coast Conference play.

The duo of junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) combined for 29 kills but the Knights were unable to complete the comeback rally as they fell 3-1 (Set Scores: 25-20, 15-25, 22-25, 15-25) in a four-set loss.

With the loss, the Knights move to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in ECC play.

The 7-5 league record moves the Knights into third place and will need a Mercy loss to keep the third-place finish, otherwise dropping Queens to the fourth spot in the ECC Postseason Tournament.

  • The Lions would attempt to keep the scoreline close as they cut the advantage down to one, 16-15 before Conrad and senior Alexis Deodat (Tampa Bay, FL) helped the Knights close out the first set on a 9-5 run for a 25-20 set victory to take a 1-0 match lead.
  • Attacking errors would hurt the Knights in the second set as the Lions earned a 25-15 second set victory to tie the match at 1-1.
  • The third set would see the Knights fall behind early to the score of 12-7 before Queens rallied behind Franco who recorded four kills and two service aces in a 9-4 run to tie the set at 16-16.
  • Queens would tie the third set on five different occasions, however with the set tied at 22-22, the Lions would end the set on a 3-0 run to take a 25-22 victory and take a 2-1 lead.
  • Needing to mount a comeback, the Knights would take a slim lead of 6-5 before the Lions used an 8-2 run to take a commanding lead of 13-8.
