Volleyball Game Day Preview – Volleyball Continues ECC Play With Two Matches on the Docket

FLUSHING, N.Y. -  The Queens College volleyball team went 1-1 last week at home as they fell in a tough five-set loss to Adelphi before earning a three-set sweep against Roberts Wesleyan to conclude the week's play in East Coast Conference action.
 
The Knights conclude their three-match homestand on Wednesday (Oct. 25) evening as they welcome the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College to town before hitting the road to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Sunday (Oct. 29) afternoon against the Mavericks of Mercy University.

Queens College Knights Preview (11-7 Overall Record, 5-2 ECC)
  • Head Coach Stefan Leger and the Knights are coming off a 1-1 week as they fell 3-2 to Adelphi University before they ended the week with a 3-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan to earn the series sweep.
  • Entering Wednesday's ECC match, the Knights are 5-2 overall, and in the ECC standing they sit in second place.
  • The Knights are led by sophomore Kendall Conrad (Carrolltown, PA) who has recorded 253 kills (3.51 kps), 30 service aces, 162 digs, and 32 blocks with five double-doubles.
    • Conrad recorded a career-high 24 kills against Adelphi (10/19)
    • She would record a career-best four blocks against Holy Family (9/8) and five services against Wilmington (9/9).
    • Conrad earned her second ECC Player of the Week honors on October 23.
      • On October 2nd, Conrad was awarded a spot on the ECC Honor Roll sheet.
  • Junior Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) has tallied 180 kills (second on the team), to go with 24 service aces, 221 digs, and seven double-doubles on the season.
    • Franco recorded a season-and-career-best 23 kills against Roberts Wesleyan (10/8).
    • The junior notched a season-best 19 digs against Wilmington (9/9).
    • Franco has been named to the ECC Honor Roll sheet three times this season.
      • On October 2nd, Franco was awarded ECC Player of the Week honors.
  • Junior Despina Boudouris (Athens, Greece) has tallied 648 assists, 174 digs, and 29 service aces to go with 10 double-doubles on the season.
    • Boudouris recorded a season-and-career-best 56 assists against Roberts Wesleyan (10/8).
    • Boudouris has been named ECC Weekly Award Sheet on six separate occasions earning Setter of the Week (4x), and Honor Roll (2x)
      • On October 23rd, Boudouris was awarded her fourth Setter of the Week honors. 

St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans Preview (3-11 Overall Record, 1-7 ECC)
  • STAC enters the week with an overall record of 3-11 and 1-7 in conference play and are coming off a 3-0 loss to Daemen on Sunday.
  • Wednesday's meeting will be the fourth meeting in program history with Queens leading the series 3-0 All-Time
  • It will be the first home meeting against the Spartans since the 2002 season when the Knights earned a 3-0 victory on October 9, 2002.
  • Jaizahir Marrero-George leads the offense having tallied 213 kills, 96 digs, 35 blocks, and nine service aces, while Lorielys Ruiz has tallied 71 kills, 36 digs, 23 blocks, and 15 service aces on the year.

Mercy University Mavericks Preview (9-6 Overall Record, 4-4 ECC)
  • Mercy enters the week with an overall record of 9-6 and 4-4 in conference play and will host Molloy on Wednesday before hosting Queens on Sunday afternoon.
  • It will be the 47th meeting All-Time between both sides with the Knights leading the series 28-18.
  • Queens is looking to complete the series sweep having earned a 3-1 victory over the Mavericks at home on Sept. 30 and are looking for their first win in Dobbs Ferry since the 2017 season when they earned a 3-0 victory on October 3, 2017.
  • Larissa Schneid leads the offense having tallied 196 kills, 169 digs, 17 service aces, and nine blocks, while Julia Pomerleau has recorded 125 kills and 40 blocks on the year.

Next Match
The roadstand continues as the Knights make their annual trip to Buffalo, N.Y. with matches against Daemen and D'Youville beginning on Saturday (Nov. 4) morning.
