FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to non-conference play to open the week, the Queens College men's soccer team welcomed the Panthers of Adelphi University to Flushing for the first time in program history.
In a high-scoring affair where both teams would match each other goal for goal, a Panthers goal in the 87
thminute of play would see the Knights fall to the final score of 4-3 Wednesday evening.
With the loss, the Knights move to 5-5-2 overall on the season.
Match Recap
- The Knights opened the match as the aggressor as they tallied four shots on goal in the opening 12 minutes of play.
- Adelphi would take over for the next 10 minutes of play as they recorded four shots with two shots on goal.
- After senior Leo Pinto's (Forest Hills, N.Y.) shot was blocked, Queens would earn their third corner kick of the first half in the 28th minute of play.
- Senior Adolfo Martinez Paquet (Sevilla, Spain) would execute the corner kick from the left side and would deliver for sophomore Harry Cooke (Market Drayton, England) to head home the opening goal of the evening.
- In the 39th minute of play, the Panthers would tie the match at 1-1.
- The tie would be short-lived as rookie Andrew Johnson (Oakdale, N.Y.) dribbled past his defenders before delivering a through ball for senior Nicholas Tagios (East Williston, N.Y.) to beat the Panthers goalie for a 2-1 lead inside the five-yard box as the Knights took a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
- The first seven minutes of the second half would be a goal filled with the Panthers wasted no time in tying the game 2-2 just 38 seconds into the resumption of play.
- Queens would quickly respond as Johnson won the ball back on the top of the 18-yard box to beat the Panthers goalie for a 3-2 lead in the 48th minute of play.
- Adelphi would tie the match 3-3 on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute of play.
- With the match tied 3-3, both teams would pick up the defensive intensity as the fouls number entered double digits.
- But it would be the Panthers who would steal the victory with a goal in the 87th minute of play for a 4-3 victory over the Knights Wednesday evening.

- Cooke recorded his team-leading sixth goal of the year.
- The sophomore recorded his 14th point of the season.
- Tagios recorded his first goal of the year.
- On the season the senior has recorded one goal and two assists.
- In 40 matches Tagios has tallied 11 goals, and nine assists for 31 career points moving him into a tie for seventh All-Time Career Points and tied for sixth in All-Time Goals.
- It would be a career night for rookie Johnson who recorded a season-high three points with his second goal and assist of the year.
- Paquet recorded his team-leading ninth assist of the year.
- For the ninth straight match, Paquet has recorded a point to extend his career points tally to 39 in 32 matches.
- With the 39th point of his career, Paquet is fifth in All-Time Career Points.
- The season-high ninth assists sees the senior move into a tie for first place on the Single-Season Assists Record with Andras Breuer (2017).
- Paquet's 11th career assist sees the Sevilla native take sole possession of fifth place on the All-Time Career Assist Record.
- In net, junior Juan Cruz Ladino (Cali, Colombia) made three saves on the evening.
- Queens held a 20-12 shots advantage and 9-7 shots on goal margin.
- The Knights held a 7-6 margin on corner kicks.
- A total of 31 fouls were called with six yellow cards shown.
