Men’s Basketball Returns to East Coast Conference Play at Home

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team hits the road for the first time in January as they travel to Cheyney, PA with a non-conference matchup against Cheyney University Wolves on Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon.

Series Notes:
  • It will be the second meeting in program history with the Knights leading the series 1-0.
  • It will be the second road game against the Wolves and the first meeting since the 2019-20 season.
Scouting the Knights
  • The Knights are 4-9 overall on the season.
    • They are in the middle of a season-high five-game losing streak having dropped all five games at home. 
    • It will the first road game since Queens defeated Daemen back on Dec. 4.
  • Queens is averaging 67.5 points per game on 39.9% shooting and are averaging 40.4 rebounds and 11.9 assists per game. 
  • Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 13.6 points per game and recorded a career-high 21 points in the victory over Daemen. 
    • Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season. 
  • While senior William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) is averaging 11.4 points per game and recorded a season-high 22 points in the victory over Holy Family. 
  • Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.)  is averaging 10.5 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. 
    • The senior has tallied five double-doubles on the season, including three in the last four games with a career-best and ECC season-high 17 rebounds.
    • Nationally Carey is ranked #4 having complied 38 (second most) total blocks and is averaging 2.92 blocks per game.
  • On Tuesday (Jan. 3), senior guard Dion Herrington (Englewood, N.J.) was awarded ECC Player of the week honors. (Link)
Scouting the Wolves
  • The Wolves are 2-10 overall on the season
    • Cheyney is in the middle of a 10-game losing streak. 
    • The Knights will be the third East Coast Conference opponent they are facing this season with Daemen University having defeated the Wolves 76-53 back on Dec. 31.
    • Mercy College will be the third ECC opponent they face in February.  
  • In 12 games, they are averaging 58.9 points per game on 39.6% shooting, 30.0 rebounds, and 11.2 assists per game. 
  • Jaylen Boyd-Savage leads the offense averaging 19.5 points per game.
    • Boyd-Savage tallied a season-high 34 points against Bryant and Stratton Roch on Nov. 13.
Next Jump Ball
  • Head coach Matt Collier and the Knights return home on Wednesday (Jan. 11) evening as they welcome fellow CUNY member College of Staten Island Dolphins in East Coast Conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
