Game Preview: Men’s Basketball Hits the Road to Dobbs Ferry Saturday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team continues East Coast Conference play as they hit the road to conclude the week in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. with a matchup against the Mavericks of Mercy College.

Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters Saturday's conference game with an overall record of 5-12 and 2-5 in conference play.
    • The Knights are coming off an 81-97 loss to Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday (Jan. 18).
    • Queens takes a two-game losing streak into their Saturday game against the Mavericks.
  • Queens is averaging 68.5 points per game on 40.9% shooting and are averaging 40.7 rebounds and 12.6 assists per game in 17 games played.
  • Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 14.1 points per game and recorded a career-high 24 points in the victory over Staten Island
    • Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season. 
    • Diamond is one of six players nationally to record a triple-double this season.
    • On Tuesday (Jan. 17) Diamond earned his fourth ECC Honor Roll (11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 1/17)
  • Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is averaging 10.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. 
    • The senior has tallied six double-doubles on the season.
    • Carey is coming off his sixth double-double with a career-high 22 points and 11 rebounds against STAC (Jan. 18) 
    • Nationally Carey is ranked #4 with 51 blocks on the season in 17 games played.
  • In conference play, sophomore Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) is averaging 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
    • Seraphin has tallied double figures in nine straight games.
    • In the nine games, Seraphin is averaging 13.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game on 51.0% shooting.  
Scouting the Mavericks
  • Mercy enters Saturday's contest with an overall record of 2-13, 1-6 in conference play.
    • The Mavericks are on a nine-game losing streak and are coming off a 97-85 loss to Molloy University.
  • In 15 games, The Mavericks are averaging 71.0 points per game on 40.4% shooting, 37.2 rebounds, and 12.7 assists per game. 
  • Sean Smith Jr. leads the offense averaging 14.4 points per game.
    • Smith Jr. tallied a season-high 23 points against Roberts Wesleyan on Friday (Jan. 6).
  • James Taylor Jr. is averaging 11.8 points per game.
    • Taylor Jr. notched a season-high 20 points against Staten Island on Wednesday (Nov. 30).
Next Jump Ball
  • Head coach Matt Collier and the Knights return to Flushing on Friday (Jan. 27) as they open a three-game homestand beginning with the Saints of D'Youville University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
