Men’s Basketball Welcomes Undefeated Spartans to Town in ECC Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team continues East Coast Conference play as the Knights host the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday (Jan. 18) evening.

Series Notes:
  • It will be the first of two meeting this season with Queens trailing the series 21-23.
  • The Knights are in search of their first win against the Spartans since the 2015-16 season when they defeated STAC 69-64 on the road 
  • Queens' last home win came during the 2012-13 season when they picked up an 81-63 victory. 
Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters Wednesday's conference game with an overall record of 5-11 and 2-4 in conference play.
    • The Knights are coming off an 84-72 victory over Staten Island Wednesday evening before a 60-72 to the District of Columbia gave them a spilt 1-1 week.
  • Queens is averaging 67.8 points per game on 40.3% shooting and are averaging 40.9 rebounds and 12.3 assists per game in 16 games played.
  • Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 14.1 points per game and recorded a career-high 24 points in the victory over Staten Island
    • Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season. 
    • Diamond is one of six players nationally to record a triple-double this season.
    • for the fourth time this seaosn Diamond has earned ECC Honor Roll spot (11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 1/17)
  • Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.) is averaging 9.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. 
    • The senior has tallied five double-doubles on the season.
    • Nationally Carey is ranked #2 with 47 blocks on the season in 16 games played.
  • In the past four games, sophomore Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) is averaging 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
    • Seraphin has tallied eight straight games in double figures.
    • He began the stretch with a season-high 21 points against Roberts Wesleyan on December 9 and is coming off a team-high 18 points against the District of Columbia.
Scouting the Spartans
  • STAC enters Flushing with an overall record of 15-3 and 6-0 in conference play.
    • The Spartans are coming off a 1-1 week as they defeated Mercy College 116-79 on Wednesday (Jan. 11) before suffering their third loss of the season in non-conference play to Saint Anselm on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon.
    • In the recent D2SIDA poll, STAC is regionally ranked at #6.
  • In 18 games, The Spartans are averaging 83.9 points per game on 43.5% shooting, 42.4 rebounds, and 12.5 assists per game. 
  • James Patterson leads the offense averaging 15.1 points per game.
    • Patterson tallied a season-high 27 points against Lincoln (PA) on Saturday (Nov. 19) afternoon.
  • DeVante Jamison is averaging 13.3 points per game.
    • Jamison notched a season-high 23 points against Daemen University on Friday (Dec. 9) evening.

  • Head coach Matt Collier and the Knights hit the road to conclude the week as they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. with a match-up against Mavericks of Mercy College on Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon in ECC Play. Tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
