Women’s Basketball Returns to Conference Play Against Staten Island

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team returns to East Coast Conference play as the Knights welcome fellow CUNY member College of Staten Island Dolphins to Flushing Wednesday evening.

Series Notes:
  • It will be the first of two meeting this season with the series tied 1-1.
  • Queens evened the series last season with a 73-64 victory at home.  
Scouting the Knights
  • Queens enters the week with an overall record of 4-9 and 2-2 in conference play.
    • They are coming off a 54-46 victory over Molly in East Coast Conference play Wednesday evening and a 69-63 loss to Franklin Pierce Saturday afternoon.
    • The Knights have won back-to-back ECC games having defeated Roberts Wesleyan and Molloy to even their record to 2-2 on the season
  • In 13 games, Queens is averaging 58.8 points per game on 38.9% shooting, 37.0 rebounds, and 11.9 assists per game. 
  • Sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 12.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. 
  • In the past three games, junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 17.7 points per game to lead the offense
    • Demry matched a career-high 24 points against Stonehill (Dec. 29) and team-high 14 points in the victory over Molloy. On Saturday, the guard added 15 points against Franklin Pierce.
  • On Tuesday (Jan. 3), Demry was awarded ECC Player of the week honors. (Link)
    • It is the second time this season a Knight has earned ECC Player of the Week honors with Reeves earning back on Dec. 12.
Scouting the Dolphins
  • Staten Island enters Queens with a 5-10 overall record and 1-4 in conference play.
    • The Dolphins are on a two-game losing streak having dropped back-to-back games to Daemen and D'Youville at home.
    • Staten Island is eligible for the postseason for the first time since joining the conference in 2020-2021.
  • In 15 games on the season, they are averaging 62.9 points per game on 39.7% shooting, 36.2 rebounds, and 13.7 assists per game. 
  • Jenalyse Alacron leads the offense averaging 11.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
    • Alarcon tallied back-to-back 21 point games in the Dolphins' opening two games against Holy Family and Bridgeport.
  • Ashley Lambert is averaging 9.9 points per game. 
    • Lambert tallied a season-high 20 points against Wilmington. 
Next Jump Ball
  • Head coach Bet Naumovski and the Knights hit the road to conclude the week with a trip to the Nation's Capital on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon as they match up against the Firebirds of The University of the District of Columbia. Tip-off set for 1:00 p.m.
