FLUSHING, N.Y. – Playing in high heat as Sunday's weather touched close to high 90s on the QC Soccer Turf Field, the Queens College Knights matched up against the visiting Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in non-conference action.
The first half saw the Purple Knights hold majority of the possession as the Knights were unable to get into their attacking half. The visitors tallied an early goal in the 19
th minute to take a 1-0 lead into half-time.
St. Michael's would double their advantage in the 55
th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
After a foul on the Purple Knights awarded the Knights a free kick in the 59
th minute, a cross from sophomore
Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y.) would find graduate student
Synne Flem (Baerum, Norway) who blasted a high foot kick for Queens' first shot on goal. But Flem shot would be denied an alert Purple Knights goalie.
As senior goalie
Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) kept her Knights in the game with save after save, the Knights were unable to find their offensive rhythm as they dropped the non-conference action to the score of 2-0.

- Vargas tied a career-high in saves with seven on the afternoon.
- Junior Sara Messemer (Whitestone, N.Y.) made her first start of the seaosn, while junior Sarah Marino (Enfield, CT) made her season debut off the bench.
