FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing non-conference action, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College to Flushing in game two of their four-game home stand to begin the 2022 season.
In a game dominated by the Knights in the second half, Queens would drop their second contest of the season in a 1-0 final to Chestnut Hill.
It was all the visitors in the opening 20 minutes of the game as they held a 3-1 shot advantage. Chestnut Hill tallied the game-winner in the 16
th minute as the Griffins blasted a shot over the jumping senior goalie
Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) just right under the crossbar.
Vargas and her defense held firm for the remainder of the first half as they denied any further goals.
The second half saw a new surge of energy from the Knights as they looked to find the equalizer. Sophomore
Jacklyn Diel (Stony Brook, N.Y.) would be denied the game-tying goal just two minutes into the second half.
As Vargas and her Knights continued to deny the Griffins, the Knights' offense would continue to run into a stubborn Chestnut Hill goalie.
With time winding out, junior
Sara Messemer (Whitestone, N.Y.) blasted a shot towards the bottom left corner but would be denied by a timely save from the Griffins goalie.
In the 86
th minute,
Marina Pappas (New Hyde Park, N.Y) notched a shot towards the top corner but once again the Knights would find themselves unlucky before eventually falling 1-0 Wednesday evening.
