#55 Women’s Tennis Knocks off #75 Adelphi 5-2 on Senior Day

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to keep the momentum going in regional play, the nationally-ranked #55 Queens College women's tennis team used the doubles competition point win to defeat the visiting Adelphi University Panthers 5-2 Thursday afternoon inside the QC Tennis Bubble. 
 
In the latest DII Women's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team rankings, the Knights moved to #55 spot, while staying firm at #4 in the NCAA East Regional rankings as they look to secure an at-large bid into the NCAA women's tennis tournament in May. 
 
With the win, the Knights improved to 10-7 overall, while the Panthers moved to 10-7 on the season. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights took an early 1-0 lead as the #3 doubles duo of freshman Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) / sophomore Mariana Ling (Orlando, Fla) defeated Julia Kielan/Carolina Chaves to the score of 6-1. 
 
But the Knights' #1 doubles junior duo of Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) / Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y) would fall to the nationally ranked #6 doubles duo of Barbie Quagliardi/Caterina Federici to the score of 6-2 as the Panthers tied the doubles competition. 
 
Queens would take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play as the #2 doubles duo of senior Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) / junior Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) defeated Louisa Junghanns/Amanda Franstedt to the score of 6-3. 
 
Singles Competition 
 
The Panthers would tie the match 1-1 as Ulander fell at #2 singles to Quagliardi to the score of 6-2, 6-3.
 
But Ling would put the Knights up 2-1 following her victory over Chaves at #6 singles to the score of 6-1, 6-3. 
 
Sciarrotta quickly put the Knights in a commanding 3-1 lead as she defeated Franstedt to the score of 6-3, 6-2 at #4 singles. 
 
But Fawzy would clinch the match for the Knights at #3 singles as she defeated Federici to the score of 6-4, 6-2. 
 
Makal would fall at #1 singles in a three-set match to Junghanns to the score of 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 to bring the scoreline down to 4-2. 
 
Queens would close the match with a 5-2 final at #5 singles as junior Chole Certain (Obernai, France) battled from a first set loss of 6-4 to win the last two sets to the score of 6-2, 10-6. 
 
UP NEXT: Head coach Alan Nagel and the Knights conclude the regular season with a road trip to Wilmington, DE on Saturday (Apr. 23) afternoon as they match up against Wilmington University (Del.). The first serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
