ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore
Dion Herrington (Englewood, N.J.) and freshman
Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y) combined for 38 points but the Queens College men's basketball team fell short to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College inside the Voller Athletic Center to the score of 90-84 loss in East Coast Conference action.
With the loss, the Knights moved to 8-10 overall, 6-8 in ECC play, while the Redhawks improved to 10-9 overall, 8-6 in conference play.
How It Happened
The Knights got off to a quick start as they jumped ahead 10-4 just before the under-16 media timeout. But the Redhawks would battle to cut Queens' advantage down to two, 14-12 at the 13:24 mark.
Queens would go on a 13-2 run from 13:16 to 11:13 as Queens went up by 13 points, 27-14 with 11:13 left in the first half. But the Redhawks would battle back using an 18-5 run to tie the game 32-32 at the 5:25 mark.
But the Knights would go into halftime tied 44-44.
Herrington opened the second half on a 5-0 run as the Knights took a 49-44 lead at the 18:29 mark. Using a 6-2 run, Queens took a seven-point lead, 55-48 with 16:28 left in the game. But Roberts Wesleyan refused to go away and would tie the game 57-57 at the 13:42 mark.
Both teams would continue to trade buckets for the remainder of the game with neither team able to gain a lead of three or more from 11:25 to 3:30.
After the Knights went up by four, 80-76 with 3:30 to go, the home side would go 12-of-13 at the charity stripe over the final 3:19 of the game to defeat Queens to the final score of 90-84 to earn a crucial ECC win.
By the Numbers
Herrington scored 21 points (9-of-11 FG) with four rebounds and five assists to lead the offense. While Seraphin notched 17 points (6-of-11 FG) with four rebounds.
Queens shot a searing season-high 57.4 percent (35-of-61) from the field, 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from beyond the arc, while the Redhawks were held to 46.0 percent (29-of-63) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from three.
The Redhawks held a plus 25 margin over the Knights at the charity stripe as they earned 34 trips to the line converting 26 of them, while Queens went 5-of-9 at the line.
