Women’s Basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas Game Day Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team hit the road as the Knights travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to conclude the two-game East Coast Conference series against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College Saturday afternoon.  
 
Saturday contest will be the 48th meeting between sides as the Knights look to end a seven-game losing streak against the Spartans. On the road, Queens has been held to eight wins in Sparkill, with the last victory coming during the 16-17 season as the Knights took a 71-66 victory.

The Knights fell in overtime as the Spartans took the first meeting with an 86-82 victory. 
 
Scouting Queens College
 
Queens (3-16 overall, 2-10 ECC) are coming off a 68-59 victory over Mercy College to earn the series split. 
 
On the season Queen is averaging 63.9 points on 39.5 percent shooting, 40.6 rebounds, and 14.7 assists per game. 
 
In East Coast Conference play, the offense is led by freshman Jennah DeGout (Bronx, N.Y.) averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. DeGout has tallied six double-doubles on the season with five coming in conference play. 
 
On Monday, the rookie was named ECC player and defensive player of the week earning her second player of the week accolade of the year. On Tuesday, DeGout earned honorable mentions from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. In the victory over Mercy College, DeGout tallied a game-high 21 points and 17 rebounds. 
 
While senior Nora Gabel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) tallied her second 20-point performance as she scored 20 points in the victory over Mercy.

Scouting St. Thomas Aquinas
 
STAC (8-14 overall, 7-6 ECC) is on a two-game losing streak having fallen to Molloy College in back-to-back games. 
 
As a team, they are averaging 58.5 points on 34.9 percent shooting, 41.1 rebounds, and 14.4 assists per game on the season. 
 
In conference play, Alexa Huertas leads the offense averaging 13.4 points per game. Huertas has tallied 10 double-double performances including a season-high 29 points in the victory over Mercy. In their last meeting, Huertas tallied 28 points as she knocked down a season-high eight three-pointers. 
 
While Sarah Ericson is the second leading scorer averaging 12.8 points per game and has been named ECC Rookie of the Week on three occasions.
 
UP NEXT: On Monday (Feb. 14) evening the Knights will conclude the season series against the Dolphins of College of Staten Island. Tip-off set for 5:00 p.m.
