WBB Reeves Ties Career-High 33 Points in ECC Victory over Roberts Wesleyan

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Using a strong 13-2 run in the first quarter led by the sophomore duo of Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.), the Queens College women's basketball team bounced back with a victory over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium in East Coast Conference action.

On Friday evening, Reeves matched her career-high 33 points with her seventh double-double of her career and first of the season, while Carlson tallied 10 points and graduate student Raven Pitt (Valley Stream, N.Y.) stuffed the stat sheet as the Knights fended off a late rally by the Redhawks to emerge victorious with a 61-58 victory.

The visitors opened the game on a 6-2 run before freshman Brianna Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) knocked down a three-pointer to bring the Knight within one, 6-5 with 7:26 left in the first quarter.

A layup by the Redhawks would put them 8-5 with 7:04 on the game clock before both teams went scoreless until Reeves stopped the drought with a layup.

The Knights would start a 13-2 run on Reeves's layup at the 5:18 mark as the Brooklyn native and Carlson combined for 13 points to take an 18-10 lead to close the first quarter, a lead they would never relinquish.

The duo would combine to go 6-9 from the field as the Knights defense forced four turnovers with two steals as they held the Redhawks to 1-12 shooting from the field to take an eight-point advantage into the second quarter.

As Queens continued to hold Roberts Wesleyan without a field goal to open the second quarter, a three-pointer from Carlson would give an 11-point lead, 23-12 with 7:06 left until halftime.

Reeves and Pitt would continue the run as the Knights took a 12-point lead (their biggest lead of the game), 27-15 with 4:59 left until halftime.

The Redhawks would end the second quarter on a 14-5 run as Queens lead was cut down to three, 32-29 before two free throws by Reeves sent the Knights into the locker room up by five, 34-29 at halftime.

Queens opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run as Reeves tallied eight points to extend the Knights back up to 12, 44-32 with 5:46 left in the third quarter.
But the Redhawks would continue to work to cut into the Knights lead down and end the third quarter on a 6-2 run but the home side would lead by six, 48-42 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter would turn into the Reeves show as the sophomore guard kept the home side in front. After the Redhawks cut the deficit down to four, 48-44 at the 9:13 mark, the Brooklyn native would tally six straight points to extend their lead back to 10, 54-44 with 2:54 left in the game.
