Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Reeves’s 16 Points Paces Women’s Basketball against Felician

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Continuing non-conference action, the Queens College women's basketball team matched up against the Golden Falcons of Felician University in Rockville Centre at the Molloy University Tip-Off Challenge inside Quealy Gymnasium.

Sophomore Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Knights' offense with a season-high 16 points, while the duo of freshman Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and graduate student Raven Pitt (Valley Stream, N.Y.) combined for 14 points on the afternoon.

Game Recap

After Lapertosa tallied the first bucket of the game following an offense rebound at the 9:40 mark, the Knights would be held scoreless until the 5:28 mark as junior Kendra McPeek (Binghamton, N.Y.) knocked down a free throw to stop the Golden Falcons 9-0 run.

A run by Reeves and sophomore Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.) would bring Queens within one, 11-10 at the 3:09 mark before Felician ended the first quarter on an 8-2 run for a 19-12 lead.

Queens opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run as Lapertosa and Pitt got the Knights within one, 19-18 at the 8:15 mark.

But the Golden Falcons would go on an 11-0 run as the Knights struggled with their shooting going 0-6 from the field as the deficit went back up to 10, 28-18 with 2:56 left until halftime.

Queens would go into halftime trailing by 13, 35-22 as Reeves and Lapertosa combined for 14 in the first half.

Felician would extend their lead to 17 to open the third quarter before a jumper by junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stopped the scoreless drought for the Knights.

As the Knights continued to work from behind, the Golden Falcons would extend their lead back to 17 by the 7:03 mark before Queens attempted a comeback.

Looking to cut a 43-26 deficit down, Demry and Pitt would start a 12-4 run from the 6:47 mark to the 1:57 mark as the Knights cut a 17-point advantage down to nine, 47-38.

But the Golden Falcons would end the third quarter on a 5-0 run as Queens missed the next two shots and committed two turnovers heading into the final 10 minutes of play trailing by 14, 52-38

Having worked back from a 20-point deficit earlier this season, a comeback was on the hand but a slow start to the fourth quarter would hurt the Knights as they were unable to respond to drop their fourth game of the game to the score of 68-45.

Game Highlights
  • Reeves tallied a team-high 16 points (6-11 FG) to go with six rebounds.
