Men’s Soccer Welcome Firebirds to Flushing in ECC Play Saturday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's soccer team returns to East Coast Conference play on Saturday (Oct. 8) afternoon as the Knights welcome the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia to Flushing.  
 
Game Time: 3:00 P.M.
 
Series History
  • Record: 7-2-1
  • Last Matchup: October 2, 2021 (L 1-3) Current Streak: L1
  • It will be the 11th meeting overall between both sides with the Knights leading the series 7-2-1.
  • Queens saw a five-game win streak come to end last season as the Knights fell 3-1 on the road. 
  • It will be the first home game against the Firebirds since the 2018 season.

Queens College
  • Queens is 8-5 overall, and 3-2 in ECC play on the season.
  • The Knights are looking to end a sluggish start to October having fallen in back-to-back games for the first time this season. 
  • Sophomore Adolfo Martinez Paquet (Sevilla, Spain) leads the offense with a team-high 13 points, six goals, one assist, and four game-winning goals.
  • While Leo Pinto (Forest Hill, N.Y.) has tallied eight points on the season with two goals and a season-high four assists.
  • In goal, senior goalie Dario Giovanni Cruz (Guadalajara, México) has made 42 saves for an 8-5 overall record with four shutouts and one combined shutout. 
  • On Monday (Oct. 3), the East Coast Conference awarded freshman Finlay Armond (Sleaford, England) Rookie of the Week honors with the English native scoring two goals including one game-winner against Georgian Court Wednesday (Sept. 27) evening. (Link)
  • The Knights have been slotted to finish sixth in the ECC Coaches Preseason Poll.
District of Columbia 
  • UDC is 5-5-1 overall and 1-3 in ECC play and are coming off a 4-2 loss to Mercy College last Saturday. 
  • Santiago Gordillo Martinez leads the offense having tallied four goals for eight points. 
  • While Alex Gamez has notched two goals and a team-high four assists on the season. 
  • The Firebirds have been slotted to finish fourth in the ECC Coaches Preseason Poll.
UP NEXT: Head coach Frank Vertullo and the Knights will open back-to-back non-conference play next week as they begin the week on Tuesday (Oct. 11) evening as they welcome the Tigers of Holy Family University to QC Soccer Field. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
