FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to conclude their non-conference portion of the home schedule on a high note, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed 2021 National Championship Runner-ups and nationally ranked #11 The College of Saint Rose Golden Knights to Flushing at QC Soccer Field.
Playing a nationally ranked team, the Knights were up against a huge task on the evening. Queens quickly found themselves trailing 1-0 as the Golden Knights took an early lead just two minutes into play.
Queens would go into halftime trailing 3-0 as the visitors kept the Knights without a shot in the first half.
The second half would be a different story as head coach
Thomas Paris Knights' competed at a different pace.
Having been outplayed in the first half, Queens turned the pressure on right away to begin the second half and were quickly awarded as sophomore
Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y.) blasted a shot from 10 yards out into the top right corner to cut their deficit down to 3-1 in the 48
th minute of play.
As freshman
Katelyn Villacres (Bayside, N.Y.) kept the Knights' deficit at two, Queens continued to look for a comeback in the game. As the home side played out of Saint Rose's corner kick, senior
Sara Messemer's (Whitestone, N.Y.) on the counterattack shot on goal would be denied by the Golden Knights goalie in the 62
nd minute.
After Villacres made her second save of the second half, Messemer and Ragone would notch back-to-back shots but both shots would be denied by the goalie as the Knights were unlucky to find the back of the net in the 64
th minute.
The visitors would put the game away in the 68
th minute as they notched their fourth goal of the game.

- Ragone notched her team-leading third goal of the season.
- In goal, senior goalie Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y ) and Villacres combined to make six saves on the evening.
- Queens were outshot 19-8 but held an 8-7 margin in the second half in a spirited comeback attempt.
- The duo of Ragone and Messemer combined for six shots on goal.
