FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team returns to action Wednesday's (Jan. 5) afternoon as they open the new year in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. with an East Coast Conference matchup against Mercy College Mavericks.
The Knights will face the Mavericks for the 76
th time in program history with the former leading the overall series 54-21 dating back to the 83-84 season. Queens is 6-4 in their last 10 matchups and are 3-1 on the road under head coach
Matt Collier. Overall the Knights have a 23-14 winning record in Dobbs Ferry.

The Knights used a crucial 17-0 run to close out the first half on their way to picking up an important ECC 61-46 win on the road. Queens had three players register double figures including
Eddie Mehmetaj's team-high 13 rebounds off the bench in 24 minutes of action. The Knights shot 36.8% from the field but held Mercy to 28.8% shooting including 15.0% from beyond the arc.
Scouting Queens College
Queens (3-4 overall, 1-2 ECC) return to action for the first time since their overtime victory over Molloy College on Dec. 15 at home.
As a team, Queens is averaging 69.4 points on 42.4 percent shooting, 42.7 rebounds, and 13.4 assists per game.
The Knights have five players averaging 10.0 points or more per game led by Junior
William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) who leads the offense averaging 11.7 points per game. While senior
Eddie Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y.) is averaging a near double-double with 10.0 points and team-high 8.7 rebounds per game and has tallied two double-doubles on the season. Ellis has tallied six double-digit scoring performances on the season including two 14 points performances with the latter coming against Molloy in the overtime win.
While junior
Tyler Carey (Bayshore, N.Y.) was a force down low against Molloy posting 7 points, career-high 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks. The performance earned the Bayshore native ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Dec. 20 from the league office.
Scouting Mercy College
Mercy (0-10 overall, 0-3 ECC) will be playing their first game since their 96-81 loss to Bridgeport on Dec. 19. As a team, the Mavericks are averaging 63.1 points on 38.7 percent shooting, 34.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game.
The offense is led by James Taylor Jr. averaging 13.0 points and Elijah Mitchell with 12.1 points per game. Taylor Jr. has posted seven double-digit performances including a season-high 19 points against Roberts Wesleyan on Dec. 17. While Mitchell has posted eight double-digit performances including a season-high 21 points against Bridgeport.
UP NEXT: Queens will have a week and a half break before they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. with a matchup against D'Youville College Saints on Friday (Jan. 14) and Sunday (Jan. 16) against Daemen College Wildcats.
