AMHERST, N.Y. – Going up against an East Region powerhouse Sunday afternoon, the Queens College men's basketball team had their work cut out for them as they matched up against Daemen College Wildcats inside Lumsden Gymnasium.
The Knights were unable to keep up with the hot shooting of the Wildcats as they saw a three-game win streak come to end with a 76-61 loss in East Coast Conference action. With the loss, Queens moved to 5-5 overall, 3-3 in ECC play, while Daemen improved to 10-6 overall, 7-0 in conference play.
How It Happened
Queens found themselves down 6-0 in the early going before senior
Eddie Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y.) knocked down to two free throws to put the visitors on the scoreboard with 17:02 on the game clock.
Both sides would trade buckets as the Knights cut a nine-point deficit down to four, but the Wildcats continued to score in bursts as they maintained a lead of seven throughout the first half.
Queens put together a 6-2 run led by junior
Tyler Carey (Bayshore, N.Y.) and freshman
Jayden Seraphin(Lakeview, N.Y.) as they trimmed the deficit down to three, 23-20 just before under eight media timeout.
But the Knights would go into halftime trailing by seven, 34-27 as the Wildcats outshot the visitors' 50.0 percent to 35.48 percent from the field in the first half.
Looking to overcome the Wildcats shooting, the Knights went into a slump to start the second half. After a three-pointer from freshman
Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) brought the Knights within six, 36-30, a 10-0 run by the Wildcats would push the deficit to 16 in which the young Queens squad could not recover from to fall 76-61 on the day.
By the Numbers
The Knights had three players score in double figures led by Carey team-high 14 points (6-of-10 FG), while Seraphin tallied 12 points (6-of-10 FG).
