FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College women's tennis program opens their regular season against the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Saturday morning. Dating back to 2009, the Knights are undefeated against the Firebirds leading the overall series 15-0. Both sides will be matching up for the first time since the 2019 East Coast Conference championship final.

The Knights defeated the Firebirds in the East Coast Conference final to be crowned the ECC Champions. Gabriela Sciarotta earned the title with a three-set victory over Sofia Bellucco with a set score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. The Knights took the double points to go up 1-0 before taking a 3-0 lead thanks to Knights' win at singles #1 and #6. But the Firebirds would come back but would be denied the title as Sciarotta rallied back to win the third set and give the Knights the 2019 crown. 
 
Scouting Queens College Knights 
 
The Knights are playing their first match of the season having just competed in the ITA East Regional tournament last weekend. Freshman Caroline Hany-Fawzy advanced to the quarters in her first showing while the new doubles pair of Maka Majal and Nathalie Ulander advanced to the ITA Doubles quarterfinals.
 
Scouting District of Columbia 
 
The Firebirds are 2-0, 1-0 ECC on the season and are coming off a 5-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. The Firebirds needed five singles victories for the win as they dropped all three matches in the doubles. In singles, the win came at Court #1, 2, 3, 5, 6. Mariona Franco Martin needed a tiebreaker to earn the Firebirds a victory with the set scores of 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. 
 
Next Match-up: The Knights will go up against the Chargers of Dominican College on Sunday (Oct. 3). First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m.
